One of the things that AAAFSC really needs help with is taking on individual meetings with prospective hires during their on-campus interviews in the fall and spring. Candidates often have questions about UMBC culture and climate for Asian and Asian American faculty, family leave, work-life balance; and members of AAAFSC offer honest and informed answers.
These conversations are a chance to welcome prospective colleagues and offer some help at a stressful juncture in their professional lives, but we need volunteers to make them happen from across the colleges!!
Meetings are one-on-one and usually take 20-30 minutes. We do try for maximum flexibility in scheduling to minimize the burden on AAAFSC members. Conversations with candidates are confidential and entirely separate from search committee deliberations. Even if you can only make one of these meetings, that's a huge help. And more volunteers = less work for everyone!
Please let Tamara (tbhalla@umbc.edu) know if you're interested in helping with this. Anyone interested will be added to a google sheet and notified of requests! I'll also provide guidance on how to answer questions etc.
Many thanks!
Tamara
