  <Title>EXTENDED DEADLINE: McNair Scholars Program</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div><span>The Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement (McNair Scholars) Program provides experiences that prepare students for graduate education in all disciplines. The program involves students in research, mentoring, and other scholarly activities. McNair participants are from diverse backgrounds and have demonstrated strong academic potential.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span><strong><u>Program Requirements:</u></strong></span></div><div><span><strong><br></strong></span></div><div><p>All UMBC McNair Scholars are required to commit in writing to all program requirements and expectations. Some of the requirements and expectations include:</p><ul><li>Participation in the UMBC McNair Summer Research Institute or a summer research program at other institutions</li><li>Engage in research or scholarly activities supported by their Faculty Research Mentors</li><li>Write a research proposal and conduct research that will be presented at a national conference and the UMBC McNair Research Conference</li><li>Attendance at weekly and/or bi-weekly McNair seminars/workshops</li><li>Preparation for the GRE general examination</li><li>Completion of PhD degree within ten (10) years of attaining a bachelor’s degree</li><li>Register for the fall and spring McNair designated course for Research Methods</li><li>Meet all other program requirements as outlined in scholar contract</li></ul><div><br></div></div><div><p>UMBC students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply to the McNair Scholars Program.</p><p><strong><u>Applications must meet either one of the following criteria:</u></strong></p><ul><li>First-generation college student (neither parent has earned a baccalaureate degree) and have low family income level, as established by the U.S. Department of Education; OR</li><li>A member of a group that is underrepresented in graduate education.  <em>As defined in the Code of Federal Regulation:  The following ethnic, and racial groups are considered underrepresented in graduate education: Black (non-Hispanic), Hispanic, American Indian, Alaskan Native (as defined in section 7306 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended (ESEA)), Native Hawaiians (as defined in section 7207 of the ESEA), and Native American Pacific Islanders (as defined in section 320 of the HEA)</em></li></ul><p><strong><u>Additional criteria:</u></strong></p><ul><li>3.0 GPA or better, AND</li><li>Plan to continue immediately to graduate school and persist to earn a Ph.D.</li><li>Submit Online Application (This includes having two letters of recommendations)</li><li>Complete Group Interview Process (Open to All Applicants)</li><li>Complete Individual Interview Process (Invitation Only)</li><li>Based on application and Group Interview results, applicants will be invited for an in-person interview.   <Title>USM LSAMP Spring 2019 Research Program</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>The University System of Maryland’s Louis
    Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (USM LSAMP) announces the
    opportunity for undergraduate scholars currently enrolled at University of
    Maryland, Baltimore County, Frostburg State University, or Towson University to
    participate in programming to enhance their spring research experience. If
    selected, you will join a community of undergraduate researchers, attend
    professional development seminars, and be eligible for a financial award
    totaling up to $1,500 over the course of the program. This award is to be
    used to support research training for undergraduate scholars who work with
    distinguished STEM faculty within the University System of Maryland. Student
    scholars conduct research over a minimum of ten weeks per semester (spring)
    under the direction of a faculty research mentor.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>Applicants may apply for research
    opportunities in any of the following NSF-classified STEM disciplines:
    Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental
    Science, Geosciences, Mathematics, Physics/Astronomy, or technology areas
    associated with the preceding fields (e.g., biotechnology, chemical technology,
    engineering technology, information technology).</span></p>

    <p><strong><span>To be eligible for the research program,
    applicants must be:</span></strong><span></span></p>

    permanent resident at one of the aforementioned institutions</span></p>

    </span></span></span><span>In good academic
    standing</span></p>

    ethnic groups that have been historically underrepresented in STEM disciplines.

  <Title>Getting You into Indiana University (GU2IU) Program</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p>Our <span>Getting You into Indiana University (GU2IU) Program</span>, a campus recruitment program for prospective underrepresented and minority students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. or M.F.A. at Indiana University (IUB) Bloomington. The three-day event will be conducted on the IUB campus and begins Sunday, <span>April 8</span>, 2018, and ends on <span>Tuesday, April 10, 2018</span>. This is an all-expense paid trip for selected highly qualified applicants including airfare, lodging, and meals. Participants will learn more about IU’s Ph.D. and M.F.A. programs, research opportunities, and funding options. Additionally, participants will meet with faculty, staff and current graduate students, attend sessions on preparing competitive applications for graduate admission, explore campus cultural centers, and take a campus tour.</p><p>Our goal is to recruit the best and brightest to IU programs. Our target is 30-35 students to attend our recruitment event for spring 2018. GU2IU program participants must:</p><ul><li>Be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.</li><li>Be sophomores, juniors, seniors, master’s level students in good academic standing; or, degreed professionals interested in pursuing a Ph.D. or MFA at Indiana University Bloomington.</li><li>Complete a GU2IU spring 2018 application form requesting demographic information, educational interests, non-official transcripts and a personal essay.</li></ul><p> </p><h3>The application deadline is <span>February 16, 2018</span>.
