The Society of Actuaries is making changes to the requirements for obtaining an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) credential in July 2018. These changes are outlined in the flow chart below.
If you are interested in obtaining your ASA in the future:
1. It is recommended that you take
- STAT 417 (Introduction to Time Series Data Analysis) AND STAT 454 (Applied Statistics) or,
- ECON 421 (Introduction to Econometrics)
upper level Statistics courses and ECON 421 counts as a supplementary elective for both the Math and Statistics majors.)
2. The "Predictive Analytics" exam is a new exam being added that all aspiring actuaries will need to take. This exam will be a 5-hour project-based assessment
which will require the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and RStudio to "analyze data set in the context of a business problem and communicate findings
in a report" (https://www.coachingactuaries.com/2018Changes/SOA#exampa).
If you would like guidance on how to plan your classes next semester to meet these requirements or any other questions or concerns about VEE credits and/or exams, please feel to reach out to your assigned mentors or email Nick Pham (pham7@umbc.edu) to be assigned a mentor who can help guide you!
