Step Back in Time: An Immersive Medieval Banquet
Take yourself back to the year 1161!
Transport yourself to the Rhine Valley for an evening of history and creativity! In conjunction with this year's Meeting in the Middle undergraduate conference, UMBC's Medieval and Early Modern Studies program invites you to Klopp Castle in Bingen for an immersive dining experience.
The year is 1161. As an honored guest of the court, you will dine in the presence of the visionary nun Hildegard of Bingen and newly appointed Archbishop of Mainz, Conrad of Wittelsbach. This isn't just a dinner, though; it's a living art installation meticulously crafted by the students of an interdisciplinary arts course created just for this event.
The Evening's Festivities Include:
- A Three-Course Feast: Enjoy a catered period-appropriate menu.
- Hildegard's Own Spiced Wine: Complimentary with the meal.
- Social Hour: Arrive early to enjoy a selection of spirits and ales available for purchase one hour before the banquet begins.
- Music, Dance, and Art: Experience the sounds and steps of the 12th century with live period music and dance. Recreations of Hildegard's painted visions will be on display as well.
Support Our Scholars: When purchasing your ticket, please consider adding a donation to our "Student Access Fund" to help keep this experience affordable for all undergraduate attendees.
Tickets are $25 general public and $12 for students. Please visit here to reserve seats.
This program is made possible through generous support from UMBC's Arts+ initiative as well as the Departments of Dance, English, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts.
