Actor and playwright Daniel Beaty will perform Emergency, his Obie Award-winning solo performance in UMBC's Proscenium Theatre this Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16. Show time for both performances is 8 p.m.
The setting is New York City after a slave ship emerges out of the Hudson River in front of the Statue of Liberty, sending the city into a frenzy. Beaty performs in the guise of a few dozen characters drawn to the curious spectacle.
It is an intricately woven, urgent, witty and moving exploration of our shared humanity and what it means to be free. An explosive play where rhythm, rhyme and remembrance rise.
