Revature is currently seeking candidates for the following entry-level positions:

9315748 – Junior Software Developer

9315748 – Software Engineer

Levi May, a member of Revature’s Mid-Atlantic recruiting team, shares his thoughts about the organization:

If you had to describe Revature in three words, what would they be?

Inclusive. Innovative. Trend-Setting.

What is the number one thing you look for in a new team member?

Team players who are eager to learn in-demand technical skills and comfortable with nationwide relocation.

What do you want people interested in working at Revature to know about the company?

We have a demand-driven business model, which enables us to produce entry-level tech talent who are job ready from day one post-training!

Why did you originally choose to work for Revature?

The Tech Revolution has shaken up the labor market, with many entry-level jobs out there requiring 2-3 years of hard-core technical skills. I saw Revature’s model as extremely attractive, in that it hires associates of ALL MAJORS (regardless of GPA) and is able to equip trainees with the experience needed in just a 10-12 week period. After learning this, I had to apply!

Do you have any examples or remember a specific time that you loved working with your team?

The team works hard and loves laughing! I know I’m making a difference and helping both career beginners and career changers!

If you remember anything specific, can you talk about your interviewing/hiring process when you started at Revature?

Applicants go through a multi-step screen process for general aptitude, technical skills background, and soft skills. Our screening process ultimately determines their training pathway at Revature!

Welcoming Donna Camp Benner to the Career Center Team!

<Tagline>We are so excited to have her on-board as Office Supervisor!</Tagline>

COVID-19 hasn't stopped the Career Center from welcoming Donna Camp Benner, our new Office Supervisor, to the team! We wish that we could be together in Math/Psych 201, but we are fortunate to have her on-board during this crazy time. Feel free to say "hi" virtually (dcamp@umbc.edu) and be sure to stop by and welcome her once we are on-campus! Learn a little bit more about Donna by checking out her profile below.

Tell me a little about
    yourself. Where are you from?

I relocated to Catonsville 20
years ago from a small town north of Pittsburgh called Aliquippa, and yes, I'm
a Steelers fan. My love for community stems from my roots there and
my strong family values, much like the UMBC community that I am growing to
    love!

Where
    did you go to school?

I graduated
from Aliquippa High School, home of many famous graduates there such as
Jesse Steinfeld, Henry Mancini, Mike Ditka, Ty Law and Tony Dorsette, to name a
    few.

What
did you do before coming to the Career Center?

I worked
for Anne Arundel Workforce Development, part of the Workforce Branch of Anne Arundel County Government and MD
Department of Labor. I enjoyed my varied roles over the past 10 years as a
career advisor, training facilitator, business services rep and career center
manager. Every day was a new adventure and I loved being part of getting people
back to work and helping them to advance in their careers.

What
will you be working on at UMBC?

As the
Office Supervisor, I will be providing administrative and budgetary support to
the director and staff members in the Career Center, Math/Psych 201. My duties also include
managing the front office, student staffing/recruiting and training.

What
are you most excited about for your new role?

Besides
getting to be part of the UMBC community, I’m excited to work with such an
amazing and supportive Career Center team, and use my skills and experience to support
both staff and students in achieving their goals.

Do you
    have a secret talent?

I wish
I could say I have a secret talent, but, on a silly note, I accidentally drove
into a presidential motorcade (pre-911), drank champagne out of the Stanley Cup,
    and got kissed by Shamu.

What
was your first job or internship?

My
first job as a teenager was cleaning a small credit union, where I set off the
alarm a time or two. But, my first internship was at a major bank as a teller/office
assistant, which led to a permanent job offer as the secretary to the Vice
    President.

How
are you spending your COVID-19 quarantine?

I’ve
been learning more about UMBC and my role while working virtually. In the past
month, I started my new position, had my wedding reception cancelled, still got
married in a private ceremony (me, my new husband and the pastor), prepared to
sell my house and moved into a new place. At least I can say I’m never bored
and although it has been a little stressful, I feel blessed!

For now, everything has been moved online, and it’s harder to make a real human connection with other people who may want to hire you when there’s a screen between the two of you. Today, I wanted to talk about the virtual interview and how to perform the best you can. For further tips, check out the Career Center website.

Practice your interviewing skills using Big Interview, our mock interviewing platform. You can get advice on how to answer tricky questions and how interviews are conducted, and you can record yourself answering sample questions and have others rate your answers! If you would like the Career Center to review your interview answers, send a note to interviews@umbc.edu and a Career Peer will watch your video and rate it.

Test your equipment! Make sure your camera and microphone are working before the interview, that way if you need to make a new purchase, you have time to do so.

Dress professionally! Wear appropriate business attire for your virtual interview. Not only can your interviewers see your professionalism based on what you are wearing, but it’ll give you a little confidence boost too.

Pick a neutral background! Make sure the background in view of your camera is neutral and not distracting.

Do your research! As with all interviews, be prepared for the questions they might ask, as well as have the knowledge about the company that you need. It is okay to have notes for your interview, just don’t make a script. Organize your notes according to your skill sets with corresponding anecdotes that exemplify those skills.

Sit up straight and smile! You can’t shake the interviewer’s hand, so you need to show enthusiasm and attentiveness through your body language. Sit up straight, but be sure to appear relaxed enough that you don’t seem nervous or tense. Smile at your interviewers when greeting them and at appropriate times throughout the interview.

Finally, look in the direction of the camera, rather than to the side, above it, or below at the interviewers face. That is the best way to simulate eye contact when you can’t be in the room with someone yourself.

These are unprecedented and challenging times we live in, but that doesn’t mean that life should be put on hold. You can still job search and interview during COVID-19, it’ll just all be online! The Career Center is here to help you with every step of the process.

New Employee Profile: Anna Pittinger

<Tagline>Welcome to the Career Center team!</Tagline>

Although COVID-19
has been a crazy time for everyone, we have been fortunate to have recently
hired Anna Pittinger as a new member of the Career Center team. While we are disappointed
that we can’t welcome her to UMBC’s physical campus right now, we are excited
to have her on board and look forward to having her join us in Math/Psych 201 in
the future! Take a look at the profile below to learn a little bit more about
          Anna.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where
are you from? Where did you go to school?

I am originally from Baltimore Maryland
but currently live in Annapolis MD. I went to Baltimore School for the Arts
High School and graduated from Towson University with a degree in Sociology and
          minor in Psychology.

What did you do before coming to the
          Career Center?

I worked for Hyatt and Marriott Hotels
as an Event and Sales Manager. I also worked for some smaller organizations as
a Director of Programs and Events. In addition, I enjoy cooking and owned a
small Catering Company in Arnold that did small local events.

What will you be working on at UMBC?

Career Services and Events with a focus
          on service and employer relationships.

What are you most excited about for your
          new role?

The people at UMBC! The Institution is
wonderful- students, staff, employers, alumni, everyone. It is an incredible
place to work because of the values and people.

Do you have a secret talent?

I was a dancer at Baltimore School for
the Arts when I went to high school there and I love to cook. I was the chef
and owner of my own tiny catering business.

What was your first job or internship?

First Job - TJ Maxx.

First Internship - I was and am an
          Albert Schweitzer Fellow.

How are you spending your COVID-19
          quarantine?

Learning more about UMBC, adapting to
two children at home and how to assist their awesome teachers “e-teach,” more
family time, and exploring things I haven't had time to do before.

Please join us in welcoming Anna to the
team! We are so happy to have her with us during this crazy time and even more
excited to see her on campus.

Managed Services Engineer I: UMBCworks 9315558

Security Operations Analyst – Managed Services: UMBCworks 9315559

Allie LaBelle, a member of the NuHarbor human resources recruiting team, shares her thoughts about the organization:

If you had to describe NuHarbor Security in three words,
    what would they be?

Security, Passion, and Education

What is the number one thing you look for in a new team
    member?

We are
looking for passionate people that are excited to work for a cyber security
company. We look for a new team
member to fit our companies’ culture! We look for a new team member who will always
put their team first, strive to do better for our customers, and continue to
    learn and grow.

What qualities do your coworkers possess that make them
    enjoyable to work with?

We think that getting to spend time with the awesome people
we work with is one of the best perks of the job. NuHarbor Security employees
are very easy to talk to! We use slack for interoffice communication and always
have several conversations going on from division specific conversations to a
watercooler where we encourage random conversation from weekend plans to
favorite beers. In our Vermont office we
frequently host lunch events from potlucks to pizza and beverages of choice
days. What makes our coworkers so
great to work alongside is their passion for what they do, their
openness to welcoming new members, and their drive for the company as a whole,
to be the best that they can be for the good of each other and the company!

What makes
you enjoy going to work and how does the culture promote that? What about the office encourages that
    supportive environment and culture?

What makes me
enjoy working for NuHarbor is not only that we are located in the beautiful
state of Vermont and get to see the mountains everyday on our way to work. It’s
the fact that when you are hired and are going through onboarding you are never
a stranger for long. For new students who have just graduated the first day let
alone first week may seem scary. Have no fear, by the end of the first week
everyone has stopped by to say welcome and introduce themselves to you. The
communication is amazing at NuHarbor, there isn’t the need to feel like you are
bothering someone when you send a Slack message over to them! Something that makes NuHarbor stand out is how we follow
our values. Everyone is on the same page when it comes to our them, protect the
house, help our clients win, and always be learning are the three values that
    all our employees model

Why did you originally choose to work for NuHarbor
    Security?

I choose to work for NuHarbor because of the great things Iheard about the company. I came from a huge companyand I was yearning for a smallercompany
with a “family” feel! We were voted #4 for “Best Places to Work” in Vermont for
2018, we are waiting on the 2019 results but we already know we are somewhere within
    the first 50!

Do you have any examples or remember a specific time that
you loved working with your team?

Currently our
company had to transition from working at the office to 100% working remote. At
a time where the unknown was frightening our company really kept us together. Justin
our CEO has put on a couple events to keep us updated and at ease. He put on a virtual
“town hall” where he updated everyone about what was happening at NuHarbor! Our
departments managers all gave an update on their departments! I really enjoyed
and found it important to get together as a company. On Fridays we have been
doing a “virtual happy hour” as a company! The last two weeks we have had
themes for the zoom meetings, everyone joins with fun virtual backgrounds! This
upcoming Friday is our first Bingo game!!! Even though we are all separated and
not in the office environment we are kept in the loop of what’s happening and
able to still enjoy each other’s company!

If you remember anything specific, can you talk about
your interviewing/hiring process when you started at (NAME OF COMPANY)?

The hiring process at NuHarbor was very personable! They
clearly love what they do! Kathie Cheney the HR director started the interview
process with a pre-screen phone call “trying to get to know me” were we just
chatted about what I currently did and what interested me in this opportunity. We
then had a “face to face” with another person from the HR team. They asked me
about what they were looking for and asked me some questions regarding the
position, I was able to ask question about the company too! The next step I was
brought back in for another face-to-face where I had a full panel interview
with a couple people from the different departments! They asked me more
technical questions and opened it up for me to ask the managers questions. They
even gave me the grand tour of the offices! From
there I heard back within the next 12 hours about the verdict!

What internal mobility is available, and how soon can
employees take advantage of growth opportunities?

Our company is growing! We are taking on more clients and
expanding our boundaries across the East Coast! There are a lot of
opportunities for internal mobility within our company! If you are successful
and are doing a great job you will not go unnoticed. We keep a lot of our
employee’s strengths and aspirations into our recruiting mind frame.

Why do you hire UMBC students?

We see that
there is a lot of correlation between what UMBC students focus on and what we
do daily at NuHarbor Security and are excited about the opportunities to hire
    within the University! We have
researched the Cybersecurity Track and Cybersecurity Analytics certificates and
feel these individuals would be able to hit the ground running at NuHarbor
    Security!
