    <h4>What is the focus of your research/internship?</h4>
    <div>
    <div>For my internship, which was virtual, I was a fellow through the <a href="https://orise.orau.gov/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">ORISE program</a> which offers a wide variety of fellowships throughout the country. I worked with a group within the FDA to create a database of pharmaceutical data using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), which I did not know before my internship! </div><div><br></div>
    <h4>What advice do you have for students who are interested in getting involved in research or an internship?</h4>
    <div>It can be intimidating to start applying, but believe in yourself and put yourself out there! Teachers in the department are always sending emails about job opportunities that you should look into! <a href="https://careers.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">The UMBC Career Center</a> was also helpful in reviewing my resume before I used it in applications. </div>
    <h4>Are you a member of any clubs/campus organizations?</h4>
    <div>Tau Beta Pi, Undergraduate Research in <a href="http://www.hhmi.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Dr. Summers' Lab</a> (September 2020 - present)</div>
    <h4>What are your goals after graduation?</h4>
    <div>Work in industry, maybe with pharmaceutical production</div>

          <div class="html-content"><div><strong>Chiad Onyeje, '24 c</strong><strong>hemical engineering</strong></div><div><br></div><div><strong>Internship experience</strong></div>Over the summer, Chiad delved into an Undergraduate Research Internship combining Biomedical Engineering and Nanoscale Science at the Vanderbilt Institution of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (VINSE) program. Chiad learned about cell culturing techniques, microparticle formulation strategies, research project design &amp; communication, and microfluidic device development along with the various tools and techniques often required in the growing field. The microfluidic devices fabricated were made to both refine and optimize the production of antioxidant microparticles by flowing separate aqueous and organic phases together, all studied in the Duvall Lab where Chiad worked. The Engineering Marvels have the potential to reduce internal inflammation and a plethora of differing degenerative diseases as a further cascading effect if taken to the public one day.<div><div><br></div><div><strong>What advice would you give to students interested in internships?</strong></div><div>"Always step out of your comfort zones when looking for and being a part of the internship. I debated for a while about where to do my internship and ultimately decided on Vanderbilt because of how different the atmosphere would be, along with the differences between Baltimore and Nashville. Furthermore, every internship opportunity is a chance to explore a new side to yourself: tack on a goal or skill you'd want to learn alongside the experience that you wouldn't/couldn't do otherwise. Advice like this is what makes the experience far more impactful and way more fondly remembered!" </div><div><br></div><div><strong>What are your plans after graduation?</strong></div><div>"Moving up to graduate school to pursue a Masters and eventually a Ph.D! <p>Mike graduated from Perry Hall High School (Baltimore County) in the Class of 2005, and joined UMBC that Fall on a Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce Full Scholarship. He majored in Chemical Engineering (GPA: 3.75) and graduated from the Honors College in 2009. During his time at UMBC he participated in a variety of activities, including: living on the Honors College Floor for two years, creating the "Biodiesel Project" (a club that made biodiesel at a local farm using waste vegetable oil and did some related research on campus), singing in the Gospel Choir, organizing a Bone Marrow Registration Drive (+475 sign ups, he later donated bone marrow in 2020), performing research/work on campus in the labs of several faculty (Dr. Daniele Fabris, Dr. Brian Reed, Dr. Upal Ghosh, and Dr. Mariajosé Castellanos), presenting at URCAD, volunteering at St. Agnes clinics, and having a fantastic experience overall. </p>
    <p>After graduation from UMBC, Mike biked across the United States with two other UMBC alumni and a then current UMBC student, to raise money for safe water. During his gap year, he worked as a research associate at UMB Shared Services Facility.</p>
    <p>In Fall 2010, he attended Lehigh University for graduate school, where he earned his master’s and doctorate in environmental engineering. He earned a Fulbright Scholarship while at Lehigh and lived/researched in India from 2012-2014. While in India, he co-founded <a href="https://drinkwellsystems.com/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Drinkwell</a> in 2013 with two other co-founders. Drinkwell is a water solutions company based in India and Bangladesh to solve the arsenic and fluoride crisis that was related to his PhD research on innovative ion exchange nanomaterials. Today, they serve up to 300,000 users per month across the Indian subcontinent. Mike finished his PhD in 2017 from Lehigh University and continued working with Drinkwell - overall he lived in India, Bangladesh, and his suitcase for three years. </p>
    <p>Since 2018, he has been primarily based in Brooklyn, NY doing consulting work. Today, he works for <a href="https://gorevel.com/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Revel </a>and supports their rapid expansion after their recent $126M Series B investment round. Revel's mission is to accelerate EV adoption in cities by providing the infrastructure and services that make it easy to go electric.</p>
