This has led to the recent establishment of the <strong><a href="https://umbc.edu/stories/light-based-timing-and-navigation-research/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Center for Navigation, Timing, and Frequency Research</a></strong> (CENTAUR) at UMBC with support from the Army Research Laboratory. Its research on optical clocks can improve the accuracy of the current satellite-based Global Positioning System and provide alternatives in case of its failure.</span></div></div>
