Registration is open for the Multicultural Leadership Experience, a collaborative effort between Campus Life and the Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion & Belonging (i3b), to be virtually held during the Spring 2021 semester. The Multicultural Leadership Experience (MLE) will:
- Engage up to 20 undergraduate students in a leadership learning cohort;
- Enhance participants' leader identity and leadership capacity;
- And increase participants awareness of personal abilities and identity development through authenticity, self-reflection, the role they play in developing relationships, and capitalizing on difference
Based on the belief that leadership is learned through experience, education, and reflection-- MLE will focus on leadership development through a multicultural lens, create a dynamic virtual learning environment, and invite UMBC students to learn with and from UMBC faculty, staff, and alumni. Sign Up for the First-Generation Peer Mentoring Program!
A program designed to connect first-generation students
In coordination with the First-Generation Workgroup, Off-Campus Student Services is incredibly excited to announce the First-Generation Peer Mentoring Program (FGPMP).
FGPMP is designed to support the success of current first-time and full-time first-generation students at UMBC. At UMBC, first-generation students are defined as "a student who is the first in their immediate family to attend college". Students that take part in this program can expect to meet other first-generation students and become a part of a large, supportive community that works to share resources, find lasting friendships and connections, and create an impactful college experience. Please be aware that in order to be a mentor, you must have completed at least one year as a student at UMBC and mentees must be within their first year at UMBC.
Participants of the FGPMP will also have the opportunity to take part in a series of activities and workshops designed to enrich students both personally and professionally.
Some additional benefits of taking part in the FGPMP include:
Developing transferable and marketable skills to enhance professional experience
Cultivation of leadership, self-management, and organizational skills
Improved communication and interpersonal skills
Greater self-efficacy and self-awareness
An increased network of support
Expanding your resume

UMBC’s
Spring 2021 Virtual Career & Internship Fair is only a week and half away, Friday, Feb. 5. We want to make sure you are registered, prepared, and comfortable with this virtual format prior to the day of the fair so you can make the most of your time connecting with employers over live group chat and video.
WHY SHOULD YOU REGISTER TODAY?
The
registration process will give you the opportunity to complete your profile and upload your resume. Employers will be able to search candidates based on the information provided on this registration form prior to and during the fair.
Registered students will have early access to view attending organizations, review their job opportunities and schedule 1:1 chats starting Monday, Feb. 1.
WHAT WILL I NEED TO COMPLETE THE REGISTRATION PROFILE?
You will want to have a current resume to upload to your profile. You can also upload a profile picture and provide the link for your LinkedIn Profile.

A virtual resume review appointment can be made with a Career Center staff member by clicking the “Schedule Appointment” button on your UMBCworks home page. Next, select a 30- or 60-minute full resume review, OR a 15-minute Express Resume/Cover Letter Review (available Monday-Friday, 2-4 p.m.).

IMPORTANT: Testing Instructions for Commuter Students
Happy first day of class! If you have registered for on-campus COVID-19 testing this week, please see below for instructions on installing the MG Scanner app. Please note: It is imperative that you install this app before leaving your home.
Please look for an important email from MG Scanner Mobile (MG Scanner) and open it for instructions on how to download the new app (MarylandGenomics SampleScanner) required for COVID testing this semester.
This email will contain a unique activation QR code that
must NOT BE SHARED with anyone else!

A few other important details to remember about on-campus testing:
This will be a non-observed, self-administered test with a nasal swab.
When you arrive on campus, proceed to the Commons Garage.
A volunteer will provide you a testing kit at the entrance.
Park in any available spot and perform the test. If you are unable to use the app, please turn on your hazard lights and someone will assist you.
After your test is completed, exit the garage and deposit your vial into the collection bin at the exit.
Your testing results will be posted to your COVID Compliance Card in your myUMBC profile. It generally takes 72 hours to receive your results.

Wherever you are the Women's Center is here for you!
On-campus of off-campus, synchronous or asynchronous, excited or scared, new or returning... the Women's Center is here for you!
Women's Center Spring 2021 Hours of Operation:
The Women's Center continues to provide support and services virtually Monday through Friday throughout the spring 2021 semester. We encourage campus community members to contact us through email at womenscenter@umbc.edu or via phone at 410-455-2714. Staff will generally be most available between the hours of 10am-4pm. We appreciate your patience in our response to your email or returning your phone call.
The Women's Center lounge space will remain closed until further notice. Just think, our new couches are going to feel even more comfy once we get to use them together again!
Individualized Support Meetings:
Women's Center professional staff are available for individual meetings and support which we can provide via phone or video chat; to schedule an appointment, email womenscenter@umbc.edu or call 410-455-2714. If you are already working with a specific staff member and need to set up additional meetings, feel free to reach out to the staff member you have been working with directly (via email or even g-chat!).

Welcome to EWB Spring 2021

Hi everyone and welcome to a new semester! We are excited to work with you all this spring and have important information to share for new and returning members:
-->We are deciding on a meeting time for our General Body Meetings (GBMs) and work sessions. If you plan to attend our weekly meetings, please fill out your availability
here by Sunday, January 31st. We want to choose a time that works for as many people as possible!

Discord server. Most of our communication and updates are done on this platform, so join if you haven't yet!
-->Involvement fest is coming up next week and will be on Webex Teams. Our Involvement fest virtual booth will be on Wednesday, February 3rd from 12pm to 2 pm. Come say hello or ask any questions you may have! The link to join is

-->For our water supply system project, we will preparing for construction of the chlorinator & metering system. Our focus will be finishing the implementation report and the related logistics for remote construction. We also are finalizing an partnership with a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Costa Rica, so if you are interested in international communication and/or speak Spanish we will be doing work in this area as well.
If you have any questions, you can ask at
umbc.ewb@gmail.com, involvement fest, in the EWB Discord, or an exec board member. We will have more information in our first GBM as well (date and time TBD but will be sent out soon). Hope to see you there!
