Internship Opportunity with JCET
Help build NASA GSFC PACE's HARP2 polarimeter

Hi, my name is Ben Cramer. I'm an engineer working on campus under JCET on the HARP2 instrument. I'm contacting you because I'm looking for student interns that might be interested in working on the project under mechanical systems. If you have any students that you think might be interested, please feel free to pass along my contact information or send their information to me. Below I've tried to briefly explain the project and what I'm looking for as for far duties, skills, expectations. I'm happy to meet with a potential student and just chat if they are curious. My goal is to bring on at least one student asap and up to 3 through the end of summer.
HARP2 is a polarimeter which will be part of the instrument suite on the NASA GSFC PACE mission, a mid-sized satellite mission scheduled to launch in fall of 2022. The HARP2 instrument is being designed and built by UMBC through JCET. The mechanical team has completed the design and is in the final stages of fabrication. The next phase of the project will be assembly followed by testing, calibration and verification. Delivery of the instrument to the PACE project is scheduled for the end of 2020. Student interns would be responsible for helping with documentation including developing testing and assembly procedures and writing reports. They would be responsible for development/design of ground support equipment, assembly fixtures and test apparatus as well of the manufacturing and assembly of this equipment. Students would also be responsible for hands on support and documentation during testing and calibration.

Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD) features research, scholarship, and creative work carried out by UMBC undergraduates. Student work is shared through oral presentations, posters, artistic exhibits, performances, and film. Over 300 presenters participate annually. Researchers work with faculty mentors on independent research, or research that is part of the mentor’s on-going projects. They are from all disciplines, and can be working on a thesis, capstone project, part of a scholars or honors program, or they can be unaffiliated.This campus-wide celebration of achievement affirms UMBC’s commitment to the twin goals of research and a distinctive undergraduate experience.
All current undergraduates who have conducted research, scholarship or creative work in the last year may apply to present their results at URCAD. Mentors, fellow students, friends, family members, high school teachers and students, graduate school recruiters, and the general public are invited to attend.
Our guest speaker is Dr. Keisha John, Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion, Graduate School of Arts &Sciences, University of Virginia

We're now open until 7pm Monday through Thursday!
We're excited to spread the word that the Women's Center has new extended hours for the spring 2020 semester. We are now open until 7pm Monday through Thursday!
Spring 2020 Hours of Operation:
Monday - Thursday: 9:30am to 7pm
Friday: 9:30am to 4pm
As a reminder, the lounge is closed periodically throughout the week to accommodate our various discussion-based groups and events. Be sure to check our

Abstract:
Bone as a functional material could experience various stresses that could lead to microdamages. In article number
1904936, Dipanjan Pan and co‐workers show that targeted hafnia nanoparticles and photon counting spectral computed tomography can detect microdamages. This advanced technology could determine signals from hafnia nanoparticles bound to the hard tissue of bone both in the ex vivo model and in vivo.
