Education #2 - Single Use Technology presentation by AstraZeneca.
Single Use technology has been used successfully for decades to improve the flexibility of existing stainless steel manufacturing plants. More recently, entire production facilities are being designed with single use flow paths. AstraZeneca’s Director-level process and manufacturing team leaders will discuss AZ’s journey from the introduction of single use through current production strategies and the establishment of a single use management system.

Congratulations to Mustafa Al-Adhami!
Winner of the 3MT Competition
Congratulations to Mustafa Al-Adhami!
Mustafa is a Mechanical Engineering PhD candidate in Dr. Rao's lab.
After a series of rigorous training sessions with professional 3MT coach, Scott Morgan, the 3MT competition took place between six finalists: Michael Battaglia, Jr., Kayla Lemons, Sonya Squires-Caesar, Alex Rittle, Mustafa Al-Adhami, and Juan Valdez. Each student delivered a dynamic presentation of their thesis in under 3 minutes!
After a rigorous round of deliberation by the 3MT judges (members of the graduate school and alumni), the first place prize was awarded to Mustafa Al-Adhami. He will have the honor of representing UMBC at the 3MT Regional Competition! Alex Rittle was awarded second place winner. Mustafa Al-Adhami was also awarded the People's Choice Award!
This year's competition showcased a variety of research. The Graduate Research Conference Committee is extremely grateful for all of the presenters, reviewers, volunteers, and other campus participants who made the 40th Annual Graduate Research Conference a success!
If you see Mustafa around campus, give him a high five and wish him congratulations!

Hopefully, you were able to stop by the Career Fair last week and have been emailing with recruiters ever since. If not, never fear! The Career Center has a huge list of events happening this semester. You can see our full calendar here, and be sure to look at my guide below on what to expect from each type of event.
Single Events:
Just like the Career Fair, there are a bunch of once a semester or once a year events happening this Spring. I can’t cover them all here, so be sure to look at our full list of events, but I'll go over a few. The CAHSS Career Conference is happening March 7th!. It’ll be an evening full of employer panels, alumni stories and free desserts. This next event isn’t really one event, but instead a full month of events happening every single day. April is our Career Month where we have daily workshops, panels, or other events. And finally, if you’re a graduate student, we have an event just for you! Our Career Paths for Graduate Students event is a speed networking and discussion session. Be sure to register if you are interested.
Recurring Events:
The Career Center also has a series of events to introduce UMBC students to potential employers. Our Information Tables (like this one happening with Regal Beloit on the 20th) are when employers set up a table in the Commons for brief networking chats with students. When you go, be sure to bring your resume and dress professionally. Career Corner events (like this one happening with chAMP on the 21st) happen on Mainstreet. Employers sit down and have longer discussions with you about possible career paths. UMBC Connects events are special information sessions with partners of the university. They tend to be larger events in the UC Ballroom, like this one hosted by the NSA on Wednesday. On the Roads (check out this one with Johns Hopkins) are my favorite. The Career Center transports you to the offices for the chance to chat with employees, as well as getting a feel for the corporate culture of the organization. Inside Scoop events are a little different. Instead of focusing on specific companies, they focus on possible career paths for your major, like Communications and Writing Careers. Finally, our Keys to Success workshops focus on broadly applicable career skills. For example, our workshop on the 4th of March is all about Mastering the Job Search. These events happen throughout the semester, so be sure to keep an eye out for employers, careers, and skills you’re interested in!

Our first GBM is TODAY, February 18th during Free Hour.
During the GBM, we will introduce our officers, give an overview of our upcoming events, and provide information on other computer or security related events happening on campus.
Plus feel free to stick around after the GBM and speak with our officers, we are looking for freshman representatives to support our club moving forward (this is also a great way to get some leadership experience).

Hello ISCOMers,
Reminder that TODAY from 12-1pm the second part of Cybersecurity Month: Company Visibility Day will be taking place with ZeroFox.
Who is ZeroFox? ZeroFox is a cybersecurity company based in Baltimore that provides cloud-based software as a service for organizations to detect risks found on social media and digital channels. This includes phishing, malware, scams, impersonator accounts, piracy, and much more!
Listen from Chris Raborg Principal Software Engineer and UMBC Alumni talk about his day to day along with his career growth within the field. Alongside him will be Jen Meyer VP of Customer Success to discuss all the other excellent things ZeroFox brings to the table.
