    <Title>Bipartisan Policy Center Seeking Paid Summer Interns</Title>

          <div class="html-content"><p><strong>INTERN THIS SUMMER AT BPC</strong></p><p>Application Information Available at:  <a href="https://bipartisanpolicy.org/internships" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">https://bipartisanpolicy.org/internships</a></p><p>BPC has a robust summer internship program. Interns work full time and are assigned to a specific BPC project or functional area. Summer interns will receive a $2,500 stipend for ten weeks of work and must be rising juniors or above, but are not required to be enrolled in school at the time of application. Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply, but must have a valid work permit or visa verifying eligibility to work in the United States. We do not offer visa sponsorship.</p><p>Interns provide administrative support, assist with events and meetings, conduct research and assist with the development and writing of reports, white papers and proposals.           						<p><span>Walden Circle Community Center provides out-of-school time services for school-
          aged children (5-14) at Walden Circle Townhouses in Woodlawn, MD. Students
          receive homework help, snacks, art enrichment, and occasional field trips. The
          afterschool program is supported by UMBC and other local university students.
          WCCC follows the academic calendar of Baltimore County Public Schools
          </span></p>
          						<p><span>Responsibilities and Duties
          </span></p>
          						<p><span>Activities Leader supports WCCC staff in maintaining safe a safe and stable
          environment for children. Primary duties are to personally engage students and
          monitor student activities during after school hours. Activities Leader will be
          responsible for working with all students that attend after-school programing in two
          major capacities: (1) Providing homework guidance or enrichment for school work.
          (2) Facilitating activities include but are not limited to board games, outdoor
          recreation, arts &amp; crafts, or other themes activities that are planned by the site
          coordinator/program manager during the school year.

          </span></p>
          						<p><span>Must be committed and enthusiastic and have some experience working with youth.
          Candidates must also submit a background check which can be completed on
          campus at the UMBC police office.<br>

  <Title>UMBC Science Payload Soars to Space</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span>Since the Fall of 2017, UMBC students from the <strong>Mechanical Engineering Department </strong>working at the laboratory of<a href="https://me.umbc.edu/dr-carlos-a-romero-talamas/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"> Dr. Carlos Romero-Talamás,</a> assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering, have been collaborating with students from Capitol Technology University to design and build a sounding rocket payload to study atmospheric composition at high altitude. </span><div><br><div><span>On January 13, 2019 at 9:13 UT (4:13 EST), a rocket carrying this and six other payloads belonging to student groups from the US, Japan, and Norway, successfully launched from the Andøya Space Center in Norway, reaching an altitude of 174 km before falling back to the North Atlantic sea. </span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Data produced by this instrument will be analyzed at UMBC and CapTech to look for signals of sodium, iron, and other elements conjectured to be present at very high altitudes. </span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>A video of the rocket launch can be found </span><span><a href="https://www.andoyaspace.no/2019/01/13/g-chaser-mission-successfully-launched/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">here</a></span><span>. </span></div></div></div>

    <div class="html-content"><div>The 23nd Annual Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day will be held on April 24, 2019.</div><div><br></div><div><a href="https://apps.my.umbc.edu/urcad/form/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong>Apply</strong></a> to present your research or creative work by <strong>February 22, 2019</strong>.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><strong>URCAD XXIII:</strong></div><div>Over 250 Undergraduate Presenters in All Disciplines Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD) features research, scholarship, and creative work carried out by UMBC undergraduates. Student work is shared through oral presentations, posters, artistic exhibits and performances, and film.</div><div><br></div><div>Over 250 presenters participate annually. Researchers work with faculty mentors on independent research, or research that is part of the mentor’s on-going projects.  They are from all disciplines, and can be working on a thesis, capstone project, part of a scholars or honors program, or they can be unaffiliated with other programs.</div><div><br></div><div>Students who have received Undergraduate Research Awards (URA) for the previous year will be presenting their findings. The UMBC Review, UMBC’s annual peer-reviewed research journal, which features academic papers written by UMBC undergraduates, makes its debut at this event- stop by and get your copy!
