BPC has a robust summer internship program. Interns work full time and are assigned to a specific BPC project or functional area. Summer interns will receive a $2,500 stipend for ten weeks of work and must be rising juniors or above, but are not required to be enrolled in school at the time of application. Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply, but must have a valid work permit or visa verifying eligibility to work in the United States. We do not offer visa sponsorship.

Interns provide administrative support, assist with events and meetings, conduct research and assist with the development and writing of reports, white papers and proposals. While interns work closely with their project teams, there are also opportunities to learn from and be exposed to the wide range of issues addressed by the organization.

For information on our Summer Research Opportunities Program, including the application link and instructions, visit our website.

Any U.S. citizens or permanent residents that are from an underrepresented group, are low-income or first generation students and will be juniors and rising seniors in Fall 2019, in any discipline offered by the Notre Dame Graduate School, interested in attending the program are encouraged to apply. The program will run from May 20-July 27, 2019.

Upload a statement of intent, a CV, an unofficial copy of transcripts, and one letter of recommendation uploaded by the recommender.

Summary

Walden Circle Community Center provides out-of-school time services for school- aged children (5-14) at Walden Circle Townhouses in Woodlawn, MD. Students receive homework help, snacks, art enrichment, and occasional field trips. The afterschool program is supported by UMBC and other local university students. WCCC follows the academic calendar of Baltimore County Public Schools

Responsibilities and Duties

Activities Leader supports WCCC staff in maintaining safe a safe and stable environment for children. Primary duties are to personally engage students and monitor student activities during after school hours. Activities Leader will be responsible for working with all students that attend after-school programing in two major capacities: (1) Providing homework guidance or enrichment for school work. (2) Facilitating activities include but are not limited to board games, outdoor recreation, arts & crafts, or other themes activities that are planned by the site coordinator/program manager during the school year.

Qualifications

Must be committed and enthusiastic and have some experience working with youth. Candidates must also submit a background check which can be completed on campus at the UMBC police office.

The program is designed to infuse qualified undergraduates with enthusiasm toward both graduate level education and a career in research. Participants will make important contributions to the Department's ongoing research efforts.

In cooperation with several other CISE REU Sites, we observe a priority deadline of February 15th and a common application deadline of March 15th. Evaluation will start on February 15th. Applicants will be notified by May 1 about their status (accepted, not accepted, or pending). Once an applicant has been accepted to the program, a response from the applicant, either accepting or declining, must be received within two weeks of the date of the offer. Students selected for participation in this program will receive a stipend of $5,000. Students will receive room and board in an on-campus university dormitory. In addition, students will receive free GRE preparation classes.

On behalf of the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration, (IIAR) and the Ammonia Refrigeration Foundation, (ARF), I would like to introduce you to our Scholarship Program.

The IIAR and its foundation is a Technical Association made up of Engineers, End-Users, Contractors and Manufactures working in the Natural Refrigeration Industry.  In 2018 we awarded three (3), two-year scholarships, to Engineering Students attending engineering programs at Delaware, Missouri and Pennsylvania State Universities. 

Our Founders Scholarship is awarded each year to three (3) collegiate Juniors exhibiting exceptional character and interest in pursuing an engineering or related technical degree leading to a career in the refrigeration field.  The scholarship also provides additional funds for registration, travel, lodging and meals associated with attending  IIAR’s Annual Natural Refrigeration Conference & Expo during the Spring of their Junior year. 

2019 FOUNDERS SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT 
Junior Year
$4,000 annually, to be paid in two equal installments of $2,000.
Senior Year
Recipients who attend IIAR’s Annual Natural Refrigeration Conference & Expo 
$9,000 annually, to be paid in two equal installments of $4,500 
OR
Recipients who do not attend IIAR’s Annual Conference and Trade Expo
$4,000 annually, to be paid in two equal installments of $2,000

On January 13, 2019 at 9:13 UT (4:13 EST), a rocket carrying this and six other payloads belonging to student groups from the US, Japan, and Norway, successfully launched from the Andøya Space Center in Norway, reaching an altitude of 174 km before falling back to the North Atlantic sea. 

Data produced by this instrument will be analyzed at UMBC and CapTech to look for signals of sodium, iron, and other elements conjectured to be present at very high altitudes.

URCAD XXIII:
Over 250 Undergraduate Presenters in All Disciplines Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD) features research, scholarship, and creative work carried out by UMBC undergraduates. Student work is shared through oral presentations, posters, artistic exhibits and performances, and film.

Over 250 presenters participate annually. Researchers work with faculty mentors on independent research, or research that is part of the mentor’s on-going projects.  They are from all disciplines, and can be working on a thesis, capstone project, part of a scholars or honors program, or they can be unaffiliated with other programs.

Students who have received Undergraduate Research Awards (URA) for the previous year will be presenting their findings. The UMBC Review, UMBC’s annual peer-reviewed research journal, which features academic papers written by UMBC undergraduates, makes its debut at this event- stop by and get your copy! Come hear the alumni keynote speaker talk about their experiences after UMBC, and how being an undergraduate researcher benefited them.

UMBC is unique in providing this opportunity for undergraduate students to conduct and present their research in a professional and supportive setting.  Students get valuable feedback from their peers, faculty, and staff, and practice their public speaking and presentations skills.  This campus-wide celebration of achievement affirms UMBC’s commitment to the twin goals of research and a distinctive undergraduate experience.
