    <Title>Summer Research Opportunity in Engineering</Title>

          <h2>The College of Engineering is offering to qualified undergraduates 
          from throughout the country the opportunity to conduct research projects
           in:</h2>
          <ul>
          <li><a href="http://www.cse.unt.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Computer Science </a></li>
          <li><a href="http://www.cse.unt.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Computer Engineering </a></li>
          <li>
          <a href="http://engineering.unt.edu/electrical/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Electrical Engineering</a> </li>
          <li><a href="http://www.etec.unt.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Engineering Technology</a></li>
          <li><a href="http://www.mtse.unt.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Materials Science and Engineering</a></li>
          </ul>
          <p>The program lasts for eight weeks during the summer. The dates for 2012 are June 2nd (check-in) to July 28th (check out).</p>
          <h3>Research Opportunities</h3>
          <p>All research projects pertaining to SUPER will be based in <a href="http://engineering.unt.edu/about/about-discovery-park" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Discovery Park</a>, just four miles north of the main campus.</p>
          <p>SUPER students will have office space in <a href="http://engineering.unt.edu/about/about-discovery-park" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Discovery Park</a>
           and access to all research facilities. They will be assigned a faculty 
          mentor and can choose to perform research under one of our research 
          areas or propose a research project of their own (check our website for 
          other exciting research projects):</p>
          <ul>
          <li>Bioinformatics</li>
          <li>Characterization and testing of piezoelectric materials and devices</li>
          <li>Computer architecture, memory systems, and parallel processing</li>
          <li>Development and testing of advanced polymer based materials and composites</li>
          <li>Embedded Computing</li>
          <li>Low Power VLSI Design</li>
          <li>Microwave and Antennas</li>
          </ul>
          <h3>Eligibility</h3>
          <p>Our program is oriented towards students who have completed at least two years of study in:</p>
          <ul>
          <li><a href="http://www.cse.unt.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Computer Science</a></li>
          <li><a href="http://www.cse.unt.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Computer Engineering</a></li>
          <li><a href="http://engineering.unt.edu/electrical" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Electrical Engineering</a></li>
          <li>
          <a href="http://www.mee.unt.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Mechanical Engineering</a> </li>
          <li>
          <a href="http://www.mtse.unt.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Materials Science and Engineering</a> </li>
          </ul>
          <p>A cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher at the end of the 
          Fall 2011 semester is required.  Students who will graduate at the end 
          of the Spring 2012 semester are not eligible for this program.</p>

         also have 2 or 3 quarters, mentored experience in a
         biomedical/biobehavioral laboratory. </span>

          <div class="html-content">Over the last 16 years, the France-Merrick Foundation have supported UMBC students through this Scholarship Program that recognizes those with a strong sense of service and academics.<br><br>The 2012-13 France &amp; Merrick Scholarship Application has been given a new look, as we have updated sections of the application.  The current co-hort will will graduate all but one of its member this May.  Available are two Fellows positions (tuition, room, board, and mandatory fees) and five Scholars positions ($1000).  <br><br>Please find the application attached.  It is due Wednesday, April 4th by 5pm.  Interviews will be scheduled the following week.  <br><br>For any questions, contact Lori Hardesty, Assistant Director, Service-Learning, at <a href="mailto:lhardesty@umbc.edu">lhardesty@umbc.edu</a> or (410) 455-2493.   <br>

          8-week Summer Research Experience for Undergraduate program (REU) at the NJ School of Conservation.  The objective is to cultivate highly motivated<br>undergraduate students in transdiciplinary environmental research.  Ten<br>undergraduate students will be selected to participate in this hands-on,<br>field-oriented research program centered on forest lakes in Northwest New<br>Jersey.   Participants will be housed in cabins located within 30,000 acres<br> of mature forest, mountain ridges and freshwater streams and lakes. Working<br> with faculty mentors, participants will gain scientific

  <Title>Summer Research on Structure and Function of Proteins</Title>

    <div class="html-content">We are pleased to announce we are accepting applications for our NSF-REU site on Structure and Function of Proteins at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL.  The program provides research training for 10 students, for 10 weeks during the summer and focuses on integrative projects at the junction of engineering, biology, and chemistry.  Undergraduates participating will conduct independent research under the mentorship of faculty, explore the implications of their research with peers and mentors through formal and informal discussion groups, develop an understanding of the ethical implications of the research process and professionalism, and present their research at an end of program symposium.<br><br>Research projects will relate to the central theme of protein structure and function and be collaborative in nature with pairs of students working on different aspects of a specific project guided by faculty from the three disciplines.<br><br>To be eligible, students must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident that is currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and completed either an organic chemistry or biochemistry sequence.  Students are selected based on academic record, research performance/interest, and potential for outstanding research in biology, chemistry, or engineering.   <br><br>Compensation:<br><br>Each student will be housed in a campus dormitory (at no cost to the student), will receive a weekly stipend of $500 for 10 weeks, a weekly food allowance, and travel costs up to $500.<br>  <br>Summer 2012 Application Deadline:  24 February 2012<br>Summer 2012 Program Dates:  21 May – 27 July 2012<br><br>Visit  <a href="http://www.southalabama.edu/alliedhealth/biomedical/ucur/index.htm">http://www.southalabama.edu/alliedhealth/biomedical/ucur/index.htm</a> to apply.<br>  <br><br>
