Please come out to the National Residence Hall Honorary's 1st Nature Clean-Up.  We will be performing some much needed trail maintenance in McKeldin Park on Sunday, November 6th from 9am-1pm.  

All volunteers should arrive at The Commons Circle at 8:15am so that we can depart and arrive at the park by 9am.

Volunteers should wear long pants, close-toed shoes, and bring water.  We will supply the gloves and the equipment. 

We are in need of volunteers & drivers for the event, and the more drivers we have, the more people we can take.

Kop-Flex, operating since 1926, is a division of the Emerson Electric Co. which manufactures flexible rotating couplings for industrial applications. Located just 9 miles from UMBC near BWI, Kop-Flex offers students the opportunity to gain experience in mechanical design and manufacturing. Kop-Flex offers excellent opportunities for advancement, currently 7 of 13 engineers are former co-ops.

Co-ops will work closely with Product Engineers & mentors in the design of mechanical couplings. They will apply engineering knowledge to perform stress analysis, calculate coupling mass elastic data, produce coupling drawings, develop new and innovative products, and manage engineering projects. Project management may provide opportunities to interact with VP’s, managers, and customers. They will have the opportunity to interact with global employees and customers.

Research & Development – Support new product development and product improvement projects. Support product development engineers with design of experiments, implementing testing, and development of productivity tools.

Mill Product – Support design engineers with the design of heavy industrial couplings for steel mills, paper mills, and mining equipment. Support product development to improve coupling designs for heavy industrial couplings.

High Performance – Support engineers with the design of turbomachinery couplings for gas turbines, compressors, motors, and generators.  Support product development to improve coupling designs for turbomachinery couplings.

Required Credentials:
Mechanical engineering students, preferably 3rd year students willing to work F/T and take a semester off.  Will accept students part-time who can commit to at least 25 hrs per week.

On November 1, 2011 the Missile Defense Agency will post on USA Jobs, an announcement of the intent to hire 35 entry level engineers, bachelor, master and PhD level to start work February 2012.  

If selected, they will enter the two year Missile Defense Career Development Program (MDCDP) 

They have just announced the extension of the deadline to November 14th!

The majority of the positions will be located in Huntsville AL www.asmartplace.com.

another 34 entry level engineers.

What do you like to do in your free time? Play video games? Photography? Spend a day showing high school students why you love it and how to do it just like you!
Teach a class at Splash! 2012, an annual one-day event in which high school students are brought on to campus to learn from college students.

At the Junior + Senior family meeting, I spoke about Splash! and what we do, I wanted to give all of the CWIT community a chance to be a part of our program!
No experience is necessary to be a teacher, you just have to love something and have a lesson plan!

Last year, I taught a Rugby 101 class with my team, and we had a great time!
This year, Splash! 2012 will be held on March 10th. Teacher registration can be found here & will close on study day (December 14th, 2011).

This is a paid undergraduate position. Dr. Shaun Kane from the Department of Information Systems is seeking motivated undergraduate students to help develop new interactive technologies. 

Project: Work with Dr. Kane and other students to construct a working touch screen-based tabletop computer, similar to the Microsoft Surface. Help to develop construction plan, acquire materials, assemble hardware, configure software, and test the system.

Skills Required: Basic experience with installing and configuring computer software is required. Experience with computer programming,computer hardware, and woodworking are are a plus, but are not required.

Time Commitment: Up to 10 hours per week with a total of 60 to 80 hours per semester. Flexible work hours with mandatory weekly supervisory meetings and periodic project-group meetings.

Expected Duration: This project will begin in the fall 2011 semester, and may continue for the spring 2012 semester.

Eligibility: This offer is open to undergraduate students who are in their first 4 semesters at UMBC.
