Go "On the Road" With the Shriver Center to Northrop Grumman

Visit Northrop Grumman (http://www.northropgrumman.com/) to learn about Summer 2010 internships on Friday, February 26th.

Internships are a key strategy in the Electronic Systems (ES) sector college recruiting program. The purpose of the ES Summer Intern Program is to identify and hire students for summer and part-time jobs early in their academic careers, with the potential of their receiving full-time job offers during their final year of school.

In general, engineering/technical intern candidates must: 1) Be enrolled in an accredited bachelor's degree (or higher level) college/university program in an engineering/ technical major; 2) Have completed at least their sophomore year; 3) Have at least a 3.0/4.0 overall GPA; 4) Be available to work for 10 weeks during the summer 2010 semester, and 5) Be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite; a current clearance is helpful, but not required). In most cases, intern candidates major in one of the following engineering curricula: Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, Computer Science/Software, Systems, Industrial/ Manufacturing, Engineering Physics, or related area. Many of our software/computer science internships involve real-time embedded systems, so some background in that area is helpful. Exposure to radar & other sensor technologies and/or RF/microwave/communications applications is also potentially useful.

To register for this tour, please RSVP via UMBCworks and e-mail your resume to Casey Miller at The Shriver Center (410-455-2493, cmille1@umbc.edu).

The Shriver Center Promotes 3 Ways to Learn to Serve...

Full Title: The Shriver Center Promotes 3 Ways to Learn to Serve THIS Week of 2/1

There are 3 ways to learn about Service-Learning opportunities
through The Shriver Center during the week of 2/1:

    1. Walk-in Hours THIS Tuesday, 2/2 - Thursday, 2/4, 9am-4pm at The Shriver Center, 1st floor of the Public Policy Building, just past the elevators. No appointment necessary to learn how to link your interest in helping others with a transcript notation and opportunities to earn credit!

    2. Involvement Fest - the Service/Social Action Component of the Office of Student Life's three day action-packed event is on Tuesday, 2/2 from 11am-2pm on Main Street in the Commons. Representatives from over 10 service sites will be in attendance to answer any questions.

    3. The Shriver Center is hosting its 2nd Annual Service-Learning Fair THIS Friday, February 5th from 11:30am-1:30pm on Main Street in The Commons. Nearly 30 community partners and schools will be coming to campus to meet one-on-one with students about their volunteer
opportunities. On-site Service-Learning registration and 096 Practicum enrollment will be available, as well as information about how to receive a transcript notation for service.

EXCITING NEWS!!! The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc.
(BARCS) will be bringing along some dogs from the shelter that are in need of adoption! Look for them on the Terrace, right outside of Main Street. BARCS came out last April during Volunteer Week - the dog in need of adoption was such a sweetheart and loved the attention!

Feel free to contact us at The Shriver Center with any questions, the 1st floor of the Public Policy Building or email Clare Greene (clare6@umbc.edu), Melissa Huselton (huselton@umbc.edu) or Lori Hardesty (lhardesty@umbc.edu)! You can also just stop by at any of these events!
