Situated in Baltimore Inner Harbor, IMET offers students the opportunity to conduct nine-week project research in marine sciences, applying molecular tools. You will have the opportunity to fully participate in the daily operations of the laboratory to which you are assigned, much like current graduate researchers at IMET, including attending lab meetings and posted seminars to conducting research as outlined by your mentor.

Duration: Monday, June 3 - Friday, Aug. 2

Hours: Full-time (evenings/weekends may be required)*

Compensation: $13/hr.

Housing: Dormitory accommodations at UMBC available for those outside the Baltimore Metro area.

* Majors: Biological Sciences or related field

March is Women's History Month! In 1987 the US Congress designated March as National Women’s History Month. This creates a special opportunity in our schools, our workplaces, and our communities to recognize and celebrate the often-overlooked achievements of American women. Each year there is a special theme designated by the National Women's History Project. This year's theme is is "Visionary Women: Champions of Peace & Nonviolence"

Tomorrow, we'll be Looking Back at all of the work that our center has accomplished since its inception 15 years ago through our archival materials including past PawTalks, videos for our 15th Anniversary Celebration, posters/flyers, and more!

During our 15th Anniversary Celebration, we announced the launch of our GritStarter campaign and so far we have raised 10% of our intended goal! The funds that we raise will be used to support programs, outreach, and initiatives that cultivate the cultural consciousness of students, staff, and faculty on UMBC’s campus. But we can’t do it alone. The work of building a diverse AND inclusive campus requires investment from all community members.

• Perform LC-MS analysis of proteins, peptides, and small molecules
• Perform data analysis with statistical and bioinformatics tools
• Participate in the general lab and instrument maintenance
• Document all experimental records and file reports
• Publish papers in peer-reviewed journals

• BS Biology, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry or related field
• PhD a strong plus
• Basic understanding of Theromo Scientific mass spectrometers such as QE series and QqQ; or Agilent mass spectrometers such as 6400 series QqQ.
• Hands-on experience in biological sample preparation for (U)HPLC and mass spectrometry is a strong plus.
