Dance Theatre of Harlem: Forty Years of Firsts On view Saturday April 18 - August 30, 2015 This majestic exhibition of dazzling costumes, set pieces, and video excerpts celebrates an iconic company and its corps that defied prejudice, and gravity itself, in pursuit of their talent. Keith Saunders, Ballet Master of Dance Theatre of Harlem, Demonstration and Talk Saturday April 18, 1pm Meet the Ballet Master of the iconic dance company, Dance Theatre of Harlem. Saunders, a Baltimore, Maryland native, appears as part of the opening day for the exhibition Dance Theatre of Harlem: Forty Years of Firsts. Learn more and RSVP.
Family Dance Day Saturday April 25, 12pm-5pm Bring your dancing shoes and participate in a full day of fun dancing and exercise. Families are invited to learn popular dance moves by attending “mini” dance classes (30 - 45 minutes each) throughout the day. Classes offered: Modern – Sharayna Christmas Rose; Hip Hop – Renee Pitts; Afro Caribbean – Sheena Black; Hot Hula - Kirsten Ledford; African – Brenda Brown; Liturgical – Darby Pack. Dance Theatre of Harlem Performance Saturday June 20, 8pm Witness the grace, power, and beauty of Dance Theatre of Harlem in this return performance to Murphy Fine Arts Center at Morgan State University. Life in Motion: A Conversation with Misty Copeland Saturday August 1, 1pm Meet ballerina darling Misty Copeland, the first African-American soloist in the last two decades at the prestigious American Ballet Theatre. Ms. Copeland will discuss her new memoir, Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina and her children's book, Firebird. A book signing follows. All age are welcome to attend. Learn more and RSVP.
