Intermittent Wifi Connectivity Issues Yesterday

Throughout the day a number of community members experienced trouble connecting to the campus wireless networks, both Eduroam and UMBCVisitor. Our networking team was triaging the issue throughout the day, and worked with our vendor to identify a potential software bug in the system.

We upgraded the system software very early this morning around 1am to address this issue. However, we won't know if the problem is fixed until late this morning because it appears to be at least partially caused by a large number of users connecting at once.

We will have staff actively monitoring the system all day, but if you do experience issues connecting, please let us know by contacting our technology support center at x53838 or by opening a ticket with us. The more information we get, and the quicker we get it, the sooner we can get this resolved if the software upgrade didn't fix the issue.

I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, and I appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this as quickly as possible.

key services will be offline and for how long.

Friday, 8/19/2022 between 5pm and 10pm (most systems will only be down for a short period during this time):

<Tagline>Campus VoIP Phone System Maintenance on Saturday 7/2</Tagline>

This Saturday, July 2nd, from 12 noon until 12 a.m. the campus VoIP phone system will be upgraded to the latest software release. During this time the campus phone system and all related services will be operational with the exception of a few 30-60 second disruptions. Active calls should not be impacted during this work but some users may see their desk phone re-register to the phone servers while not in use. Webex phone users may need to log back into their phone services after the conclusion of the work. DoIT will be working with Police dispatch to maintain emergency calling services throughout the work.

This work is being performed in order to maintain a modern, reliable and secure phone system for the UMBC campus and is part of our regular patching cycles. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this maintenance window please let us know. If you experience any prolonged issues with your phone please contact the DoIT Technology Support Center.
