Iris Icon 2026
Pageant Fundraiser for Eating Disorder Support Services!
UPDATE: Due to multiple reasons, we are no longer able to put on this event. We have created a different philanthropy event that will take place the same evening, see that event here: https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/dphie/events/153545
Iris Icon is our annual pageant/talent show to raise money for our philanthropy, the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders.
The evening will consistent of three main parts:
-
The interview: contestants will be asked three questions, and will be able to prepare their answers ahead of time. This will include one “fun” question, i.e. “what is your go to karaoke song” or “what is your favorite movie”, one serious question regarding societal beauty standards, eating disorders, or current events, and why they want to be this year’s Iris Icon. Contestants should arrive in their formal attire for the interview.
-
Talent portion: Contestants will be able to put on any performance they'd like. We will ask contestants to submit either a video or a detailed description of their performances ahead of time so we can approve their performances. Please note that duos and group performances are not permitted, however, contestants may have up to one assistant. Contestants will change into their second outfits for the talent portion. This outfit is fun/personal and is up to the individual. Contestants will also get to walk in to their chosen entrance songs for this portion.
-
Voting begins after the talent portion. The Iris Icon (first place) is determined by DPHIE’s sisters. The prize for first place is a $20 Amazon gift card. The second place winner is determined by the entire audience. Audience members can vote for the second place winner by donating money or purchasing merchandise in their name.
Iris Icon contestants have the option to ask a sister to sponsor them. If a contestant is not familiar with any DPHIE sisters, the contestant can be matched with a sister.
