Over 250 Undergraduate Presenters in All Disciplines
Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD) features research, scholarship, and creative work carried out by UMBC undergraduates. Student work is shared through oral presentations, posters, artistic exhibits and performances, and film.
Over 250 presenters participate annually. Researchers work with faculty mentors on independent research, or research that is part of the mentor’s on-going projects. They are from all disciplines, and can be working on a thesis, capstone project, part of a scholars or honors program, or they can be unaffiliated with other programs.
Students who have received Undergraduate Research Awards (URA) for the previous year will be presenting their findings. The UMBC Review, UMBC’s annual peer-reviewed research journal, which features academic papers written by UMBC undergraduates, makes its debut at this event- stop by and get your copy! Come hear the alumni keynote speaker talk about their experiences after UMBC, and how being an undergraduate researcher benefited them.
UMBC is unique in providing this opportunity for undergraduate students to conduct and present their research in a professional and supportive setting. Students get valuable feedback from their peers, faculty, and staff, and practice their public speaking and presentations skills. This campus-wide celebration of achievement affirms UMBC’s commitment to the twin goals of research and a distinctive undergraduate experience.

"When East Dates West" is an exploration on Interracial relationships. Television, specifically comedy programs, are a cultural forum that allow marginalized groups a platform where they can create and take part in the American narrative. Because television is an important tool in shaping American popular culture it affects perceptions of Asian Americans and restricts their role as Americans with agency and individuality.

Warlock War is game where each player fights till the end. Four Warlocks enters, one Warlock leaves! Their battle field is an arena surrounded by burning lava. Each warlock possesses many powerful spells capable of destroying anyone in their way. Accurate casting of spells, extreme dodging of oncoming attack, or clever use of the surrounding environment, warlocks will use any means possible to stand to the last.

Come to URCAD on Wednesday, April 26 and join with Debbie Farthing who will reveal “Unpacking Margaret: The Other Life of Margaret Patricia Killian”.
Debbie will present a digital exhibit that will reveal another side of Margaret Killian, long-time head of the Home Economics department at the University of Omaha, through a group of objects found in a steamer trunk that belonged to her. These objects, along with other outside sources, show how Margaret acted as an agent in building a vibrant and active life, rather than that of a lonely spinster academic.

Maryland is the only state in the nation implementing the health home model in psychiatric rehabilitation programs (PRPs), a community-setting serving a high-need segment of persons with serious mental illness (SMI).
