  <Title>Mental Health Awareness Month: You Are Not Alone</Title>

     of people navigate the lived experience of mental illness.  <a href="http://accessibility.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">UMBC's 
    Office of Accessibility and Disability Services</a> joins the movement  with
     
    its many departmental partnerships, to promote mental health awareness, 
    fight stigma, and provide support. One in five people will have a mental

    </a> series features stories of courage, culture and community to

     a campus member's health situation changes (such as a recent injury or

  <Title>An Award-Winning Staff!</Title>
  <Tagline>Two big award winners at the AOK Library &amp; Gallery!</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content">The Albin O. Kuhn Library &amp; Gallery proudly announces campus awards for two of our talented staff this semester!<div><br></div><div><strong>Lindsey Loeper</strong>, Librarian III and Reference &amp; Instruction Archivist in our Special Collections division, received the UMBC Provost's Library Faculty Award. This award, founded in 2019, is given every two years to a member of the library faculty who exemplifies excellence in librarianship, research and publication, and service to the UMBC community and information professions. Ms. Loeper is a UMBC graduate (BA, American Studies, 2004) and joined Special Collections in 2007. Her nomination singled out Ms. Loeper's "effective leadership skills, extensive service contributions, and impressive record of scholarship and creativity," as well as her "outstanding and innovative work in teaching, and collaborative and collegial working manner."</div><div><br></div><div><img src="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/library/posts/101312/attachments/39636" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto;"></div><div><br></div><div><strong>Kathy Chetelat</strong>, Library Services Supervisor for Interlibrary Loan, received the 2020-2021 Karen L. Wensch Endowment Award for Outstanding Exempt Staff. Among other criteria, the award recognizes a staff member who displays "extraordinary dedication to the fulfillment of the campus goals and mission." Ms. Chetelat joined the Library &amp; Gallery in 2006, and has been a supervisor in Interlibrary Loan since 2018. Her nomination called attention to skill as a customer-serviced focused manager who is regularly praised by Interlibrary Loan users as "unfailingly professional, friendly, helpful, and thorough." She was honored at the Presidential Faculty &amp; Staff Awards ceremony on April 7, 2021.</div><div><img src="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/library/posts/101312/attachments/39638" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto;"></div><div><br></div><div>Please join us in thanking and congratulating these two stellar members of the AOK Library &amp; Gallery team and UMBC campus community!</div></div>

     preferences are the guiding principles of Universal Design for Learning

     of people navigate the lived experience of mental illness.  UMBC's 
    Office of Accessibility and Disability Services joins the movement  with
     
    its many departmental partnerships, to promote mental health awareness, 
    fight stigma, and provide support. One in five people will have a mental

  <Title>Tips and Resources for Providing an Accessible Online Course</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>During a recent University System of Maryland online gathering ,
    our Assistant Vice Provost jointly presented with College Park about 
    tips and strategies for digital accessibility.  We work in partnership 
    with DoIT, and directly with Instructional Technology, beyond our 
    collaboration and communication with faculty and the Faculty Development
     Center.  We are broadly sharing resources campus-wide to refresh awareness, including: <br></div><div><br></div><div><a href="https://umbc.app.box.com/file/650983553155" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Tips for Creating an Accessible Online Course (from Educause) <br></a></div><div>which is also posted on <a href="https://sds.umbc.edu/resources/information-for-faculty/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"> SDS's Information for Faculty Resource website (link)</a>. and<br></div><div><br></div><div><a href="https://sds.umbc.edu/accommodations/faculty/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Faculty Accommodation Guidelines/FAQ for Remote Instruction (link).  <br></a></div><div><br></div><div>These postings supplement and complement ongoing work with <a href="https://doit.umbc.edu/itnm/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">DoIT's</a> <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/instructional-technology" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Instructional Technology office</a>, their department supports Blackboard, Ultra, Collaborate, <a href="https://wiki.umbc.edu/display/faq/Ally" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Ally (Accessibility information linked here)</a> and more.  UMBC's DoIT has a strong and enduring association with Educause that informs the drive for inclusive excellence online. <span>The
    collaboration between Student Disability Services, students with accommodations,
    Instructional Technology and faculty/Faculty Development began when course
    content started  to<a href="https://covid19.umbc.edu/students/online-instruction/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"> shift online and continues today</a>.</span></div><div><br></div><div>Faculty can learn more about Instructional Technology's web-based  <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/instructional-technology/posts/92599" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">PIVOT training here. </a>The Planning Instructional Variety for Online Training was mentioned during this week's online Student Town Hall.  Additional <a href="https://wiki.umbc.edu/display/faq/Supported+Technologies" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">FAQ information</a> and technology-based training options are also available through DoIT.<br></div><div><br></div><div><a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/instructional-technology/posts/91979" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Voicethread training, and Universal Design for Learning is being promoted by Intstructional Technology via this link</a>.     Education and Disability (AHEAD).  The next Maryland meeting includes 
    collaboration with IT and instructional Technology Departments to

Kuhn Library &amp; Gallery is working on a grant-funded project entitled 'A Roadmap to the Future of Promotion and Tenure' that explores how openness, equity, diversity, and inclusion might be more strongly recognized and rewarded in promotion and tenure practices. As part of those efforts, we are conducting a survey of tenured and tenure-track faculty at Maryland academic institutions to learn about current policies and practices, faculty values, and opinions about how policies and practices align with those values. The survey has been reviewed by the Office of Research at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and determined to be non-human subjects research.</div><div><br></div><h6>We invite UMBC Tenure-Track and Tenured Faculty to take <a href="https://umbc.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6M91SiRCJP4Z8mV" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">the survey</a>.</h6><div><br></div><div><br></div><h6>Background:</h6><div>This project is funded by the Association of College &amp; Research Libraries and led by the Albin O.
