Job Description:
Easterseals DC MD VA partners with Childcare Aware of America and the United States Navy to offer the Exceptional Family Member (EFM) Respite Care Program. This program serves families of Active-Duty Navy sailors who have at least one child with disabilities and/or special needs. Each family can receive up to 40 hours of respite care a month. Goals of respite care include reducing caregiver burnout, keeping families healthy and strong, and keeping active-duty sailors mission ready.
We are looking for individuals interested in working as an in-home respite care provider for these families. All respite care providers are independent contractors. Responsibilities may include meal prepping, medication dispensation or reminders, participating in outdoor activities, attending appointments, homework help, crafts, facilitating therapy exercises, and much more. Responsibilities vary among families, but the main goal is to always provide a safe and supportive environment for the children.
This is a flexible part-time job
that can be a great addition to your academic studies and/or other job. You can
choose to work with one family or multiple based on your availability, and we
tailor matches based on a variety of factors. This may be a great position if
you are in the field(s) of occupational therapy, speech language pathology,
disability studies, education, or psychology and have a passion for working
with children and promoting health equity.
**Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all respite care providers are
required to wear masks while providing respite care.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience working with children with special needs and/or disabilities
- The candidate must be reliable, trustworthy, responsible and love working with children
- Reliable transportation
- 15-minute informational phone call
- 45-minute interview
- Willingness to complete specific prerequisites which are reimbursable (CPR/First Aid, background checks, online mini-courses, etc.).
Desired Qualifications:
- 1 to 2+ years of experience
- High school degree
- CPR Training
Additional Information:
- Compensation: $23.00 to $27.00 per hour. Pay rate is determined by relevant education and experience.
