    <div>Join us tomorrow for our annual competition and final event of the semester, the CBIC! The Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition (CBIC) is a competition exclusively for UMBC students that gives out up to $5,000 in cash prizes! </div>

    <div>Listen to students pitch their ideas in front of investors on<strong> April 30, 2019</strong> at the <strong>UMBC Event Center</strong> in the <strong>Retriever Room</strong> from<strong> 7:00-9:00PM</strong>. </div>

    <div><strong>What is the CBIC?</strong></div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>The Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition (CBIC) is a unique opportunity for UMBC graduate and undergraduate students who are serious about starting a business.  Participants will experience the process of planning a startup business by submitting a competitive and realistic 3-5 page business plan, which will be judged by members of the Baltimore Angels (real investors!).  Qualifiers will present their ideas in a final competition, where cash prizes will be given out.</div>

    <div><strong>Prizes:</strong></div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>First Prize= $3,000</div>
    <div>Second Prize = $2,000</div>
    <div>Third Prize = $1,000</div>

    <div>After a 6-month review, an additional $2,000 is available to one of the top 3 winners.</div>
    <div> </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>The CBIC will give competitors “real world” experience presenting and proposing their own idea.  They'll be paired with a business mentor and get helpful feedback and guidance. They’ll also get connected to the local entrepreneurial ecosystem, which allows for networking and further business opportunities. On top of that, there’s some hefty cash prizes!</div>

          <div>Tomorrow is our last workshop of the semester! Don't miss listening to John Schveibinz who will be teaching you valuable lessons regarding what to focus on during the first three months after launching your business. Learn the important steps necessary to get off to a good start before venturing too far into your journey. The workshop will be held on <strong>April 3rd</strong> from <strong>12 - 1pm</strong> at <strong>University Center 115</strong>.</div>

          <div><strong>About the Event</strong></div>
          <div><br></div>
          <div>The first three months of any business is exciting, but there are some important steps to take before venturing too far in the startup journey. Based on validated references and personal experience of the speaker, this workshop will cover some basic steps:</div>
          <div><br></div>
          <div>1) How to come up with valuable startup ideas for products and services</div>
          <div>2) How to identify the core of the important problem the startup will</div>
          <div>address</div>
          <div>3) How to write and use a user story to refine the problem-idea and make</div>
          <div>a unique connection with the users (the customers)</div>
          <div>4) How to measure the wants, needs and concerns of the potential users</div>
          <div>and business partners when introducing them to the startup idea</div>

          <div>These four steps, in addition to some straightforward administrative concerns, are a good basic plan for most new startup businesses.</div>

Don't miss listening to John Schveibinz who will be teaching you valuable lessons regarding what to focus on during the first three months after launching your business. Learn the important steps necessary to get off to a good start before venturing too far into your journey. The workshop will be held on<strong> April 3rd</strong> from <strong>12 - 1pm </strong>at <strong>University Center 115.</strong>

        <div>The first three months of any business is exciting, but there are some important steps to take before venturing too far in the startup journey. Based on validated references and personal experience of the speaker, this workshop will cover some basic steps:</div>

        <div>1) How to come up with valuable startup ideas for products and services</div>
        <div>2) How to identify the core of the important problem the startup will</div>
        <div>address</div>
        <div>3) How to write and use a user story to refine the problem-idea and make</div>
        <div>a unique connection with the users (the customers)</div>
        <div>4) How to measure the wants, needs and concerns of the potential users</div>
        <div>and business partners when introducing them to the startup idea</div>

        <div>These four steps, in addition to some straightforward administrative concerns, are a good basic plan for most new startup businesses.</div>

    <div>How does a scientist who only wanted to do research and develop mathematical models end up being a serial entrepreneur? It was an interesting journey, but that's exactly what happened to Dr. Kimberly Brown, CEO, Amethyst Technologies, LLC.</div>

    <div>Kimberly started Amethyst Technologies 12 years ago.  Amethyst's work includes supporting improved diagnostics and health outcomes for 50,000 HIV/AIDS patients in Kenya, quality improvement for 2,000 facilities in Tanzania that support HIV/AIDS patients, implementing the training program to support FDA compliance for 1,000 scientists at the US Army Medical Research Laboratory, training healthcare workers during the Ebola outbreak in Liberia, and performing assessments of hospitals in Iraq for compliance to international standards.</div>

    <div>Amethyst started with one employee and one client in 2007 and now supports five US government agencies, two African governments, and numerous private sector manufacturing and biotechnology companies.</div>
