UMBC’s Idea Competition is designed to challenge you to do just that, and we are offering $750 for the most innovative idea! Applications are due October 11, 2018.

Submit your idea online via the entry form. The top entries will be judged, live, by a panel of professionals and alumni along with a crowd of students at the final competition held November 15, 2018, in the Sports Zone in The Commons. The top 3 winners, determined by the results of student and panel voting, will receive cash prizes up to $750.

The Joseph and Frieda Faiman Eisenberg/VPC Endowed Scholarship is available for UMBC undergraduate students and the deadline for applyingis September 28, 2018.

The Joseph and Frieda Faiman Eisenberg/VPC Endowed Scholarshipprovides a $500 scholarship award to an outstanding UMBC undergraduate interested in becoming an entrepreneur. The scholarship will be awarded for the 2018-2019 academic year.  


CRITERIA:
  • Be a full-time degree-seeking student in good standing at UMBC
  • Submit a personal statement about their interest in entrepreneurship
  • Submit a resume
  • Demonstrate an interest in becoming an entrepreneur 
  • Have a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average

If you are also interested in applying for The PNC Scholars/Fellows Program, applications are due October 26, 2018. 

The PNC Scholars/Fellows Program provides awards up to $3,000 to outstanding UMBC students interested in becoming an entrepreneur. The scholarship will be awarded for the 2018 - 2019 academic year. The awards will be used as academic scholarships (up to $1,000), or as “seed funding” (up to $2,000) to launch new ventures or community based social entrepreneurship projects.  

CRITERIA:
  • Submit a 1-2 page personal statement about their interest in entrepreneurship.  The statement should:
  • Describe the impact an academic scholarship will have on their future as an entrepreneur or social innovator or
  • Describe how the award money will be used as “seed funding” to launch a new venture, or “seed funding” to launch a community based social entrepreneurship project.  Submit a preliminary budget outlining anticipated expenses.
  • Submit an updated resume
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Join us as Carol talks about how she has created a successful career in the arts and education, leveraging creativity, innovation, partnerships, and calculated risk-taking to make a name for herself. If you’re interested in being an entrepreneur in the arts, or want to hear about how Carol has built her successful and expansive career, join us for this talk on September 26th!


For more than 30 years, Carol has been dedicated to creating entrepreneurial and educational programs in the arts, humanities, and sciences. For nearly twelve years, she was the director of educational and cultural programs at The Smithsonian Associates where she was responsible for over 1,500 educational programs annually. Today, in addition to her work with Bogash Consulting, she is also the Director of Performing Arts at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore as well as the Orchestra Manager at Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Baltimore’s newest social impact hackathon, GiveBackHack, is coming up!

GiveBackHack is a weekend-long hackathon that brings together passionate community members to develop sustainable, technology-based solutions to some of our most pressing social issues. It is coming to Baltimore for the first time this fall, from Friday, October 26th to Sunday,
October 28th, at Allovue (301 W. 29th St. Baltimore, MD 21211).

At the event, you’ll have a chance to:
  • Share your idea and/or listen to other participants’ ideas of how to help solve the community’s problems.
  • Team up around an idea that you believe in and work on it over the weekend. Build an MVP with the support of some incredible mentors.
  • Present the idea with your team to a panel of judges. The top teams are provided with resources to move forward and sustain their ideas.

Do YOU have the next great idea? Itching to create a positive impact on society? Share your ideas with us and you might just be able to do that and win up to $750! We want to help bring your ideas to life, and here’s how you can make this a reality!

The UMBC Idea Competition is designed to challenge you to think about problems and opportunities all around us. As one of the most innovative schools in the nation, UMBC harbors many innovative students that have ideas that can change the world, and we believe students like you are capable of making this happen.

Simply answer a few questions and submit your idea via the entry form to share your idea with us. The top entries will be judged by a panel of professionals and alumni, along with a crowd of students on November 15, 2018, at the final competition in the Sports Zone in the Commons. Video entries via YouTube are allowed as well, but are limited to 60 seconds.

How to Enter

To enter the competition, complete the UMBC Idea Competition Entry Form where you will describe your idea along with a description of the problem or opportunity you wish to apply it to. Submission forms will be limited to one page, so you will need to articulate the problem you have identified and your idea briefly yet effectively. Video entries submitted via YouTube are also allowed in which you can personally pitch your idea. Although they are not required, they are encouraged as an effective way to communicate ideas to the review committee. YouTube videos are limited to 60 seconds and creativity is encouraged. Videos longer than 60 seconds will not be considered by the judges.

Dorm Room Fund, a student-run venture capital fund backed by First Round Capital, is looking to recruit their inaugural Baltimore partner. JOSEPH AND FRIEDA FAIMAN EISENBERG/ VPC ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP


The Joseph and Frieda Faiman Eisenberg/VPC Endowed Scholarship provides a $500 scholarship award to an outstanding UMBC undergraduate interested in becoming an entrepreneur. The scholarship will be awarded for the 2018-2019 academic year.  


CRITERIA:

  • Be a full-time degree-seeking student in good standing at UMBC
  • Submit a personal statement about their interest in entrepreneurship
  • Submit a resume
  • Demonstrate an interest in becoming an entrepreneur 
  • Have a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average

  • Describe the impact an academic scholarship will have on their future as an entrepreneur or social innovator or

  • Describe how the award money will be used as “seed funding” to launch a new venture, or “seed funding” to launch a community based social entrepreneurship project.  Submit a preliminary budget outlining anticipated expenses.

  • Submit an updated resume
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Then you’re going to want to hear about CBIC, a competition exclusively for UMBC students that gives out up to $5,000 in cash prizes!

Announcing the Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition (CBIC) – Prizes up to $5K!!!


What is the CBIC?


The Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition (CBIC) is a unique opportunity for UMBC graduate and undergraduate students who are serious about starting a business.  Participants will experience the process of planning a startup business by submitting a competitive and realistic 3-5 page business plan, which will be judged by members of the Baltimore Angels (real investors!).  Qualifiers will present their ideas in a final
competition, where cash prizes will be given out.

Prizes:


First Prize= $3,000
Second Prize = $2,000
Third Prize = $1,000


After a 6-month review, an additional $2,000 is available to one of the top 3 winners.

Who Should Participate?


Any UMBC student (full or part time, graduate or undergraduate) with a dream of launching their own business.

Why Participate?


The CIBC will give you “real world” experience presenting and proposing your own idea.  You’ll be paired with a business mentor and get helpful feedback and guidance. You’ll also get connected to the localentrepreneurial ecosystem, which allows for networking and further business opportunities. On top of that, there’s some hefty cash prizes!
