The Alex. Brown Center for Entrepreneurship is pleased to announce its first Workshop of the Spring Semester entitled “I Have a Good Idea…..Now What?”.  Come listen to Stephen Auvil, Chief Program Operations Officer at TEDCO, discuss how to assess your ideas and make them better!

JOSEPH AND FRIEDA FAIMAN EISENBERG/ VPC ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

The Joseph and Frieda Faiman Eisenberg/VPC Endowed Scholarship provides a $500 scholarship award to an outstanding UMBC undergraduate interested in becoming an entrepreneur. The scholarship will be awarded for the 2022-2023 academic year.  

MUST SUBMIT:

• Eisenberg/VPC Endowed Scholarship Application

• A 1-2 page personal statement about their interest in entrepreneurship

• An updated resume

Must be a full-time degree-seeking student in good standing at UMBC with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

PNC SCHOLARS/FELLOWS PROGRAM

The PNC Scholars/Fellows Program provides awards up to $2,000 to outstanding UMBC students interested in becoming an entrepreneur. The scholarship will be awarded for the 2022-2023 academic year. The awards will be used as academic scholarships (up to $1,000), or as “seed funding” (up to $2,000) to launch new ventures or community based social entrepreneurship projects.  

MUST SUBMIT:

• PNC Scholars/Fellows Application

• A 1-2 page personal statement about their interest in entrepreneurship.  The statement should:

• Describe the impact an academic scholarship will have on their future as an entrepreneur or social innovator or

• Describe how the award money will be used as “seed funding” to launch a new venture, or “seed funding” to launch a community based social entrepreneurship project.  Submit a preliminary budget outlining anticipated expenses.

• An updated resume

Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Attention all aspiring entrepreneurs!

 Do you have an idea for a company or social impact venture? Are you ready to try out something new, take risks, and be your own boss? If you answered yes, then the Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition (CBIC) is the perfect opportunity to do so! CBIC is a competition exclusively for UMBC students that awards up to $5,000 in cash prizes in BOTH the Technology and Innovation track AND the Social Impact track.

What is the CBIC?

The Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition (CBIC) is a unique opportunity for UMBC graduate and undergraduate students who are serious about starting a business or social impact venture.  Participants will experience the process of planning a startup business by submitting a competitive and realistic 3-5 page business plan, which will be judged by members of the Baltimore Angels (real investors!).  Qualifiers will present their ideas in a final competition, where cash prizes will be given out.

Prizes:

First Prize= $3,000

Second Prize = $2,000

Third Prize = $1,000

Cash prizes are available to the top 3  winners in both the Technology and Innovation track and the Social Impact Track.  

After a 6-month review, an additional $2,000 is available to one of the top winners.

Kayla and Gretta recently presented at the 2021 Changemakers Challenge, and earned a $15,000 investment towards their project, Pennies for Pointe. 

The mission of Pennies for Pointe is to increase the participation of underrepresented populations in dance. Dance improves a person’s mental and physical well-being, social and work skills, and brings communities together.  Unfortunately, safe and effective dance training is expensive and hard to find.  Because of this, it is generally inaccessible to communities of color, lower-income, and other marginalized communities. We are committed to making dance education more accessible, providing necessary supplies and resources for students to train effectively, and exposing youth a part of these communities to the art form.

The duo stated, “You can’t be what you can’t see,” which is why representation is at the heart of everything we do. More than anything, we hope to create positive life changing impacts for young dancers apart from marginalized communities.
