    holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from the Johns Hopkins University
    and received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of

  <Title>Grand Challenge Scholars Program</Title>
  <Tagline>Applications for GCSP now open--deadline is April 1!</Tagline>

    <span>We are  now recruiting for the Grand Challenge Scholars Program. If </span><span>you are not familiar with the program, it is an opportunity for </span><span>undergraduates in ALL majors to engage with broad problems facing </span><span>society, ranging from clean water to better medicines, from a range </span><span><span>of perspectives: research, interdisciplinary, entrepreneurship, </span></span><span>global dimensions, and service.  The program is especially targeted </span><span>at current sophomores, but freshmen and juniors may apply as well.</span><div><br></div>
    <div><strong><u>Application Details: </u></strong></div>
    <div>1. Complete online Application </div>
    <div>2. Your transcript</div>
    <div>3. Short answer questions </div>
    <div>4. 2 letters of recommendation </div>
    <div>5. An optional letter of support</div>

Join us on <strong>Wednesday March 1 at 12 PM</strong> in the University Center Ballroom Lounge, and learn how our own UMBC alumni have helped strengthened our community, Baltimore. L<span>isten to Joseph Jones talk about his entrepreneurial </span><span>journey and what prompted him to take action to address </span><span>one of the leading problems facing Baltimore and cities </span><span>across our nation.</span>

    <div>Since its founding in 1999, the Center for Urban Families has <span>remained at the front-line of addressing some of our city’s </span><span>most pressing issues, including poverty, unemployment, </span><span>father-absence and family disintegration. CFUF maintains </span><span>an unwavering focus on addressing the key challenges of  </span><span>Baltimore’s urban families by working to connect fathers </span><span>to their children, creating opportunities for economic and </span><span>financial security through work, and providing access to  </span><span>other key interventions and supportive services.</span>

    <p><span>The University Startups Conference and Demo Day brings together a diverse audience of university Startup Officers, university startups, entrepreneurs, Fortune 1000/Global 1000 corporations, VCs, angel investors, policy leaders, and federal government agencies. The event provides a venue to form and maintain robust transaction networks among the participants with the aim to align university IP and startups with investor and corporate needs.</span><span><br></span></p>
    <p><span><span>This is a wonderful chance for UMBC students to network with tech entrepreneurs, as well as meet investors. While admission is exclusive and costly, it is totally <em>free</em> for UMBC students, so take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! </span></span></p>
