Info Session - Run for a Senate Position
What do we do? What does being a senator involve?
Friday, March 27, 2026 · 12 - 1 PM
Interested in meeting folks from across campus and making a difference at UMBC for yourself and your colleagues? Consider running for a position in shared governance. As an exempt staff member, you are eligible to run for an elected seat on the Exempt Staff Senate (ESS) and/or Council of University System Staff (CUSS).
Nominations for both ESS and CUSS are open through Tuesday, March 31 (self-nominations are encouraged), with elections taking place from April 20 through 30. Apply or nominate a colleague here.
At this hybrid info session, current members and leaders from both ESS and CUSS will give an introduction to the kinds of work we do, the time commitment involved, and what they've gained from their experiences in shared governance at UMBC. There will also be plenty of time for your questions.
This info session will be offered in a hybrid format! Join us in person or virtually via Webex.
If you have any questions, please let Info Session hosts Jeff Cullen, current Vice President, or Tess McRae, current Secretary, know.
This event is open for full participation by all UMBC exempt staff regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or any other protected category under applicable federal law, state law, and the university's nondiscrimination policy.
