It’s Official…
The U.S. Department of Education has published the official three-year institutional cohort default rates for the Federal Stafford Direct Student Loan Program for Fiscal Year 2015. While the national cohort default rateis 10.8 percent, UMBC's cohort default rate is 4.0.
A cohort default rate is the percentage of a school's federal student loan borrowers who enter repayment within the cohort fiscal year and default (nonpayment) within the three years after repayment begins (the cohort default period).
Why is this important? UMBC's consistently low default rate speaks, among many things to the employability of UMBC graduates. Most UMBC graduates are able to secure employment or enroll in graduate school after earning their bachelor's degrees.
