The UMBC Undergraduate Research Award program is looking for strong students interested in doing research on a topic of their choice over the summer and next school year. The Director of Undergraduate Research and Prestigious Scholarships, April Householder, and the faculty Chair of the URA committee, Carolyn Forestiere, ask that you send a note to your faculty encouraging them to consider identifying and mentoring strong students who may be interested in applying for this special opportunity. The maximum award is $1,500, and can be used for: equipment or supplies specific to a research project, payment or other rewards to subjects who participate in a research project, photocopying or printing of project-related materials, travel if necessary to complete a project, costs associated with attending a special program for specific training to be used in the research project, or a stipend that is paid directly to the student researcher to replace income lost due to the research work. The URA program is part of UMBC's brand of promoting strong undergraduate research and we hope we receive many great applications from interested students who would work with their mentors over the summer and next school year.
The URA website has great information and examples of successful proposals.
Please reach out to either April or Carolyn if you have questions.
