  <Title>UMBC Strengthens Transatlantic Ties with the University of Porto</Title>

    <span>We had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Diana Barros, Senior Technician in the Research and Projects Service at the</span><span>Universidade do Porto</span><span>, as she engaged in a series of inspiring discussions and explorations here at UMBC. Her visit from October 14-18 was packed with meetings and tours aimed at fostering collaboration and innovation across research and academic initiatives.</span><span><br></span><span><br></span><span>Highlights included:</span><span><br><ul>
    <li><span>Meetings with leadership in International Education &amp; Global Engagement, Research and Creative Achievement, and Strategic Research Initiatives.</span></li>
    <li>A comprehensive tour of UMBC’s research facilities, including the<span>bwtech@UMBC Research and Technology Park</span><span>, the Molecular Characterization and Analysis Complex, and the</span><span>UMBC Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building</span><span>.</span>
    </li>
    <li>Engaging sessions with departments in Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Natural Sciences, underscoring the synergies in research between UMBC and the University of Porto.</li>

  <Title>Exciting Collaboration in Global Health and Emergency Medical Education!</Title>

    <span>On August 30, 2024, UMBC had the honor of hosting a delegation from Nippon Sport Science University (NSSU) from Japan as part of a dynamic exchange of ideas and best practices in emergency medical systems (EMS). The delegation, led by Dr. Keisuke Suzuki and accompanied by Mr. Kyohei Kodama and undergraduate paramedic students, engaged in productive discussions with UMBC’s Department of Emergency &amp; Disaster Health Systems (EDHS) and the Center for Global Engagement (CGE).</span><span><br></span><span><br></span><span>Key highlights of the day included:</span><span><br><ul>
    <li><span>A deep dive into potential collaborations around EMS education with a focus on common challenges in data integration and emergency care delivery.</span></li>
    <li><span>Exploring future opportunities such as the development of exchange programs and joint research initiatives.</span></li>
    <li><span>A tour of UMBC’s campus and meetings with leaders of the English Language Institute (ELI) and Special Programs. We also explored future learning opportunities, including specialized short-term English programs for medical professionals.</span></li>

    <span><br></span><span>This visit represents a meaningful step toward fostering global partnerships that will have a lasting impact on EMS education and healthcare systems.
