We're excited to pass along some resources and workshops that Retriever Integrated Health is offering this semester. They are offering both in-person and virtual groups, as well as many groups that will remain open for participants throughout the semester. Their workshops will be covering a variety of topics including anxiety, sleep, mindfulness and executive functioning.

The first step for a student to join a group is to complete a brief Initial Consultation appointment, which they can schedule by calling RIH (410-455-2542) or making an appointment through the RetrieverCare portal. Anyone interested in more information can contact the RIH Front Desk via the patient portal.

Any UMBC community member can attend a workshop and there's no Initial Consultation appointment required. All RIH services are LGBTQIA2S+ friendly and are welcoming to all diverse populations.

Check out the link and documents below for more information, and pass them along to your friends who can benefit from the support as well!

Eligibility

The Elections Committee will be co-chaired by:

A
sitting senator or cabinet member with at least one full year of
          experience within the GSA.

A

either the “officers of the cabinet,” or a position as “committee chair,”
          or “senator.”

Please note! You will be ineligible to run for any other
positions in GSA in the spring 2025 elections if you chair or serve on this
committee. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone planning to graduate
in 2025 (since as a result you would be ineligible to run anyway).

process, from candidate registration to campaigning, voting, and the
         announcement of results.

    Rule-Making:
The committee will establish clear rules for elections, including
eligibility requirements, campaign regulations, and voting procedures.
These rules will be reviewed annually and made publicly available to all
         students.

    Candidate
Vetting: The committee will ensure that all candidates meet
eligibility criteria and adhere to campaign guidelines.

    Complaint
Resolution: The committee will have the authority to receive, review,
and resolve any complaints related to the election process. Decisions made
by the committee in this regard will be final.

    Publication
of Results: The committee will be responsible for the transparent and
         timely publication of election results.

Once the Committee has completed these responsibilities
(likely no later than April 2025), your service would end.

As a member of the GSA Executive Council, you would be in a
position of service and support to the GSA. If you are elected, you will be
expected to begin work immediately and to work for approximately 7 hours per
week. You must be able to participate in online meetings every Monday from
12:30-2 PM and, once a month, on Friday from 12-2 PM. As part of this job, you
will be responsible for collaborating with other members of the GSA Executive
Council, attending important GSA events, and other duties as required. You will
receive a stipend for your work.

If you are qualified according to the Graduate School, you should participate
in the election, which will take place during the GSA Special Senate meeting on
14 Feb 2025 from 1-2 PM EST (online). Depending on the number of applicants,
you may be able to give a speech and/or answer questions before the vote that

Leading with Purpose: My Journey through STRiVE

<Tagline>Discovering values, embracing leadership, and driving change</Tagline>

STRiVE is a powerful, hands-on leadership program that helps students grow into more effective leaders and active members of their communities, especially at UMBC. My supervisor in the Division of Information Technology (DoIT), encouraged me to apply to this program hosted by the Center for Democracy and Civic Life. I applied and learned in December that I was accepted into the program! I didn’t know what to expect but during my STRiVE experience two weeks ago, I built strong friendships with the members of my pod group and discovered my personal strengths and core values. I also learned how to collaborate better with others and explored ways I can contribute to positive change at UMBC.

“The program encouraged me to think deeply about identity, privilege, and systemic inequality, while also helping me develop skills to create meaningful social change.”

I chose to attend STRiVE because, as an international female student living in the U.S., I am passionate about growing as a leader and making a positive impact in my community. Balancing my studies with my role as the night manager of AV services at DoIT has taught me the importance of teamwork, communication, and adaptability. However, I wanted to further strengthen my leadership skills and better understand the challenges related to identity, privilege, and systemic inequality—issues that affect those around us in ways we may not fully recognize because we don’t personally experience them. STRiVE offered the perfect opportunity to deepen my awareness, gain practical experience, and explore new ways to contribute meaningfully to UMBC and beyond.

One of the most meaningful experiences for me was the value session that focused on identifying our core values. We started by selecting our top 20 values from a set of cards, then narrowed it down to 10, and finally to five. This process was challenging but incredibly revealing it forced me to think about the sacrifices I make when prioritizing some values over others. We wrote our top five values on the back of our ID cards and we could get back to our value when we were facing any challenges or we had to make a decision. This practice taught me the importance of aligning decisions with my values, a lesson I’ll carry forward both personally and professionally.

“In my DoIT role, I will use what I learned at STRiVE to foster better communication and collaboration among my team. Understanding different perspectives and being mindful of diverse experiences will help me create a more supportive and inclusive work environment.”

Looking ahead, this experience has reinforced my commitment to leading with empathy and integrity. Whether in academic, professional, or community settings, I now feel more equipped to approach challenges thoughtfully and drive positive change with purpose. I would highly recommend STRiVE to anyone seeking to grow as a leader and deepen their impact on campus and beyond.

Thank you STRiVE and DoIT!
