We are currently asking our community members to provide us feedback in regard to our collective programs, initiatives, and spaces. Although our work is primarily geared toward our students, we hope to have some staff responses to let us know how we can better support our collective work for our student community. Spring 2024 Multicultural Leadership Experience (MLE)
Spring Registration deadline TODAY, January 29
Applications for the Spring '24 MLE Cohort can be found HERE.
The Multicultural Leadership Experience (MLE) is a collaboration between Campus Life and Initiatives for Identity Inclusion & Belonging (i3B), that seeks to:
Engage participants in a multicultural development and leadership learning program;
Enhance participants' understanding of their social identities, leader identity, as well as their capacity to lead;
And enable participants' development through authenticity, self-awareness, relationships, and capitalizing on difference.
The sessions are as follows:
- Meeting #1: Monday, February 12th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #2: Monday, February 19th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #3: Monday, March 4th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #4: Monday, March 25th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #5: Monday, April 8th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #6: Monday, April 22nd, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #7: Monday, May 6th, 3pm - 5:30pm
***All sessions will take place in The Commons (room location will be specified in a Google calendar invite)***
Participants will be exploring the concept of Authentic Leadership, Legacy Building, and Breaking Barriers of White Supremacy within Leadership. We will do this in a leadership learning cohort by:
- Enhancing participants' leader identity and leadership capacity using an identity-conscious lens and student development theories;
- Increasing participants' awareness of their personal abilities, identity development, and intersections that shape their story through authenticity, self-reflection, and cultural humility;
- Exploring the role they play in developing relationships while building intra/intercultural connections;
- And capitalizing on their differences, specifically in relation to their racial, ethnic, national, and other salient identity social groups
The purpose of all MLE programs is to provide a space for students and student leaders who identify within diverse or marginalized backgrounds to discover their own capacity to lead, while also promoting a better understanding of their experiences, issues, strengths, and outcomes in navigating their own collegiate careers. However, ALL students are welcome to apply!

I'm an alumni currently studying dental hygiene at CCBC Dundalk, in search of patients for dental cleanings. This is a great opportunity especially if you haven't had a cleaning in a while and have no dental insurance!
My availabilities are Tuesday 8AM and Thursday 1PM. These services come with a fee, starting at $20 for adults, $10 for children & seniors.

Things to note: One appointment session will be at maximum 3hrs long and will require more than one session to finish. This is due to the nature of it being conducted in an educational setting. Appointments are supervised and checked by Registered Dental Hygienists and Dentist.

With the minimal commitment of attending a few workshops and career events, you will be better prepared for the world of work and have the proof on your college transcript to show your employer.
DEADLINE TO REQUEST ENROLLMENT: Friday, February 29
Make your campus experience count! Enroll TODAY! Enrollment is limited to the first 40 student employees. Don't let this opportunity pass you by!
Open to all levels and majors. You must be a UMBC student employee working at least eight hours per week on campus.
How to Register Online
Log in to Handshake, then navigate to Career Center > Experiences.
Click "Request an Experience" and select "Career Center -- On-Campus Student Employment (PRAC 102- Building Skills for Career Success)" as the Experience Type. Fill in the required fields and submit.

International Research Experience Summer 2024

Bioinspired Autonomy in Natural Environments
Over 10 positions open for this summer program. It's a 13-week program for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) graduate students and PhD candidates, US residents and citizens only, starting May, 20, 2024, fully covered financially ($5,000 fellowship + all other costs).
Application package: CV, statement of interest, unofficial transcript, 2 reference letters.
The IRES scholars will study autonomous mobility in natural environments based on flying rainforest animals with the help of an interdisciplinary mentor network located in South Korea, Singapore, and Brunei. Students will get an opportunity throughout the program to participate in professional development opportunities. The summer program will start with an orientation week at the Virginia Tech campus followed by a modular sequence of setup with an engineering mentor at either
KAIST University in the Republic of Korea or the
National University of Singapore (NUS), and finally a biology immersion in
Borneo at the University of Brunei (UBD).
This program is supported through a Federal grant from the NSF; Award #1954172.
