Participating in STRiVE will connect you with other members of the UMBC community and support you in developing clarity and confidence about the contributions you want to make on campus and beyond.

3 Minute Thesis / The Gritty Talks Training Session
Hello Everyone,
GEARS in collaboration with Scott Morgan, President of The Morgan Group of Washington is hosting a leadership workshop titled "3 Minute Thesis / The Gritty Talks Training Session" on November 16th, at 10 am, Commons 331.
The workshop is open to all graduate students at UMBC interested in improving their presentation skills.
However, it is well suited for students who are interested in participating in 3 Minute Thesis, PowerPoint Roulette, The Gritty Talks, etc.

There is an unplanned outage of 25live affecting the platform not only at UMBC, but across their entire network. At the moment we do not have information on causes or an expected timeline for a return to service, but we will post any new information here on the myUMBC page.

Fulbright Information Session - Grad Students and Postdocs
Lunch will be provided
This event will occur on Friday, November 17, from 12:00 PM (Noon) to 1:00 PM in Commons 329. During this information session Dr. Brian Souders, UMBC's own Fulbright Program Advisor extraordinaire, will talk about three different Fulbright programs graduate students (master's and PhDs and, in some cases, recent alumni) can pursue/apply for; topics that will be included are, what are the differences between those programs, eligibility, how to choose the correct program for you, and how to start the application process.
Fulbright programs:
Scholar Post-doc program is an option for final year doctoral students for a 1-3 year opportunity overseas, so it can be for recent alumni, but mainly for students in their last year of their doctoral programs.
About Fulbright:
The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to build lasting connections between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. The Fulbright Program is funded through an annual appropriation made by the U.S. Congress to the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Participating governments and host institutions, corporations, and foundations around the world also provide direct and indirect support to the Program, which operates in over 160 countries worldwide.
If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident who is earning a Master's degree or Ph.D. degree, you could be one of more than 2,200 students who receive a Fulbright grant each year to go to one of more than 160 countries worldwide. It awards grants in nearly all fields and disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) fields, and creative and performing arts.
