    <div class="html-content"><p><span>The </span><span><a href="https://oei.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Office of Equity and Inclusion</span></a></span><span> and the </span><span><a href="https://oei.umbc.edu/inclusion-council/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Inclusion Council</span></a></span><span> is committed to partnering with the UMBC
    community. We acknowledge that there are many faculty, staff, and student
    groups that are already doing important inclusion work in our community and
    beyond. We believe in the power of collaboration and seek to help elevate and
    provide space for the important work that is already underway. </span><span></span></p><p><span><br></span></p>
    
    <p><strong><span>The Inclusion Council is now launching working
    groups</span></strong><span> to gather
    information, develop recommendations, and propose a plan of action with respect
    to a number of issues that have been identified by our community as priorities.
    We encourage UMBC community members from a variety of backgrounds to
    participate in these working groups. <u>We specifically would like more
    graduate student representation in the working groups</u>. As a
    community, we plan to draw on the leadership and wisdom of our students,
    alumni, faculty, and staff, many of whom confront these issues every day
    through their teaching, research, and activism.  </span><span></span></p><p><span><br></span></p>
    
    <p><strong><span>If you are interested in joining any of the

    GRADUATE ASSISTANT POSITION, 20 hours a week – AY 2020 –2021</span></strong><span></span></p>
    
    <p><span>The Office of Graduate
    Student Life (OGSL) is operated by the Graduate Student Association (GSA) to
    meet graduate students' needs as they pursue degrees at the master’s and
    doctoral levels in all disciplines at UMBC.</span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><u><span>The successful candidate
    MUST be eligible for Federal Work</span></u><span>-<u>Study, determined by the student’s FAFSA (must be a U.S.</u> <u>citizen
    or a Permanent Resident).</u></span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><strong><span>Duties of the Community
    Liaison:</span></strong><span></span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span> <strong><u>Representation</u></strong></span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Facilitates GSA’s
    community engagement efforts and programming.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Facilitates
    communication between GSA, OGSL, graduate students, UMBC University Committees,
    and the greater UMBC/Baltimore community.</span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span> <strong><u>Graduate
    Student Organization Support</u></strong></span></p>
    
    <p><span> •Advises, trains,
    and coordinates 26-28 Graduate Student Organizations (GSOs) and approves event
    requests while supporting them in event organization, as needed.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Maintains a record of
    expenses of 26-28 Graduate Student Organizations and submits reimbursement
    requests on behalf of GSO leaders.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Completes Journal
    Entries as needed.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Receives approval from
    EAA on all student reimbursements and sends documents to accounting for final
    payment</span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><strong><u><span>OGSL Expectations</span></u></strong><span></span></p>
    
    <p><span> •Serves as a
    member of the OGSL and assists the OGSL &amp;amp; GSA in its mission of
    supporting and promoting graduate students.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Collegially supports
    and assists the GSA Executive Administrative Assistant, the Communications
    Manager, and the Travel &amp;amp; Research Grants Coordinator.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Collaborates with the
    OGSL team &amp;amp; GSA Executive Board to implement GSA’s mission.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Attends weekly OGSL
    team meetings, monthly Senate meetings, GSA Social.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>Hours, Graduate Student
    Week events, the Graduate Experiences, Achievements, and Research Symposium,
    and The Graduate School events. Works 20 hours per week, staffing the office.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Prepares monthly report
    for the Executive Councils review and places in Google</span></p>
    
    <p><span>Drive/FY21 Reports.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Maintains and develops
    knowledge of the Graduate Student Handbook,</span></p>
    
    <p><span>The Graduate School
    policies and GSA policies.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Other duties as
    assigned (e.g., assisting with the Graduate Research Conference).</span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><strong><u><span>Qualifications &amp;
    Requirements </span></u></strong><span></span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Must have flexible
    availability throughout the week to participate in committee meetings and
    GSA/OGSL events.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Strong interpersonal,
    analytical, oral, and written communication skills required; conflict
    resolution skills desired.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Knowledge of Word,
    Excel, PowerPoint, and Google applications.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•A commitment to
    diversity and team building is essential.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Bachelor’s degree,
    full-time enrollment in a UMBC master’s or doctoral degree program, and be in
    good academic standing with The Graduate School.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•May not hold a doctoral
    degree or have UMBC adjunct faculty status.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Ability to work
    independently and as a part of a team is essential.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•A positive attitude,
    strong time management skills, and a sense of humor are</span></p>
    
    <p><span>advantageous.</span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span>This is a 20-hour/week
    assistantship, including tuition remission for Fall and Spring, stipend for
    Fall and Spring AY 2020-2021, and GA health insurance.</span></p>

  <Title>Presidential Management Fellows Program</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span>The PMF program (select hiring program for the U.S. govt. - Masters and Ph.D. level) application opens today.  </span><div><span><br></span></div><div><p>From Sept. 30 to Oct. 14<span>th</span>, 2020, the Presidential Management Fellows application for the program’s Class of 2021 will be posted. The entire initial application process, including submission of all necessary documents, must be completed by October 14<span>th</span>.</p><p>The PMF Program was established by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_order_(United_States)" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Executive Order</a> in 1977 and amended by Executive Order in 2003 to attract to the Federal service outstanding citizen-scholars from a variety of academic disciplines and career paths who have a clear interest in, and commitment to, excellence in the leadership and management of public policies and programs. Program regulations were amended again in December 2010 by Executive Order<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidential_Management_Fellows_Program#cite_note-5" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>[5]</span></a> establishing the PMF Program as one of the three student Pathways to federal employment. By drawing graduate students from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, the PMF Program provides a continuing source of trained men and women to meet the future challenges of public service.</p><p>The PMF Program is a flagship leadership development program at the entry level for advanced degree candidates. It was created more than three decades ago by Executive Order and has gone through many changes over the years.</p><hr><p>What Do You Want to Change About Government?</p><p><span>What Will You Give?</span></p><p>You will give the best you have to give to a cause greater than yourself. You will bring fresh, new ideas and a willingness to take on challenges never dreamed possible.  Your zeal for the position will serve to spark new energy and excitement in your co-workers. As part of the PMF “fraternal order,” you will portray your elite status through the quality of your work and service to your country.     <Title>How to Pick-up Resources from AOK Library</Title>

          <div class="html-content"><div><br></div><div><p>There will be a tent in Parking Lot 7 past the Walker parking garage on Walker Avenue. Patrons should pull up at their designated time, and a staff member will bring materials to the car.</p><p> </p><p><strong>To reserve materials for pick-up, <a href="https://library.umbc.edu/curbside-pickup.php#RequestMaterials" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">please see these instructions</a>.</strong></p><p> </p><p>Contact the circulation department if you have questions or issues at: 410-455-2354.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Eligible Patrons:</strong><br>UMBC library card holders, USM and LNDL faculty, staff, and students.</p><p><strong>Eligible Items:</strong><br>Available library materials are requests you have placed via the Catalog, ILLiad, or the Digital Media Lab (DML) and you have received an email message that the materials are available for pick-up at UMBC.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Eligible items include:</strong></p><ul><li>Items in the Stacks, Media Stacks, FOLIO, or Leisure Reading collections at UMBC</li><li>Circulating Laptops - equipment availability and loan terms (UMBC patrons only)</li><li>Circulating AV equipment from the Digital Media Lab (UMBC patrons only)</li><li>Items on loan or belonging to another USM-AI library (based on availability)</li><li>Requests placed via ILLiad, the InterLibrary Loan site (based on availability)</li></ul><p>Remember, for each of these options, you must first receive an email informing you of their availability.</p><p><strong>Pick-up Limits:</strong></p><ul><li>Books on shelf at UMBC (up to 10 items)</li><li>CDs &amp; DVDs on shelf at UMBC (up to 10 items per format)</li><li>AV equipment from the DML (based on availability)</li><li>Items on loan (based on availability)</li><li>Items owned by another library (based on availability)</li></ul><p><strong>Pick-up Appointment Hours:</strong></p><ul><li>Sunday 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (weekend)</li><li>Mon/Wed/Fri 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (mornings)</li><li>Mon/Wed 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (evenings)</li></ul><p><strong>Scheduling a Pick-up Appointment:</strong></p><ol><li>Place a request for the item(s) in the <a href="https://catalog.umd.edu/F/?func=file&amp;file_name=find-c&amp;local_base=gl" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Catalog</a>, via <a href="https://umbc.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/logon.html" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">ILLiad</a> or the <a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe3rwx77Fgv5e4Tmdi7X3JzaEcxRCNi4LmCo5hXdS26ANr5Iw/viewform" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">DML reservation form</a></li><li>Wait for the “Hold Available” email message</li><li><a href="https://umbc.libcal.com/spaces?lid=10556&amp;gid=19587" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Schedule a pick-up time (below)</a></li><li>Arrive at Parking Lot 7 across from the library on Walker Avenue during your appointment timeframe</li><li>Call us at <strong>410-455-2354</strong> when you arrive</li><li>Pop your trunk or roll down your back window for the staff to deliver your items to you.</li></ol><h3>Curbside Returns</h3><p>Patrons may drop off materials on campus 24 hours without physical contact. <a href="https://library.umbc.edu/maps/Library-Drop-Off-Map.pdf" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Click here for a campus map with drop off locations</a>. Reach out to a Graduate Student Ambassador! There is a wonderful group of students from various academic and cultural backgrounds who are ready to help YOU! They can help get you connected to resources on campus for academic help, health and wellness, and even for social/cultural groups on campus!</span></p><p><span>Graduate Student Ambassadors are volunteer student peers who serve as a “brain trust” for other students seeking information and resources regarding how to become successful, virtual learners in the time of COVID-19.</span></p><p><span>Ambassadors provide information, share their experiences on what has and what has not worked in terms of effective strategies, and direct the student to the resources available on campus.
