$100,000 NSF GRFP Fellowship seminar
Funding for Master's and PhD students
The National Science Foundation's Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) is available to students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and STEM education (includes some social sciences and psychology fields), and come with a 3-year stipend, worth more than $100,000 for your graduate education (Master's or PhD).

This event is a two day workshop, Part 2 will be hosted on Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 3PM - 5PM.
Our speakers, UMBC alums who have been winners themselves, have helped to produce several winners. You can be one of them!
The session is open to all graduate students, undergraduate seniors are welcomed, specially those from underrepresented backgrounds (Latinos/Hispanics, Blacks/African Americans, Native Americans, Native Hawaiias, Pacific Islanders).
This funding is limited to US Citizens, nationals or permanent residents.

UMBC Parking Portal. Student permits will be valid fthrough August 14, 2022.
Staff and Faculty (Payroll Eligible) must submit new
Payroll Deduction Forms immediately to ensure valid permits can be issued. Parking enforcement staff will enforce parking permits this week.

We’re thrilled to announce that starting this Sunday, September 5th, OCA Mocha will be holding study hours right in their community meeting room! Stop by during Sunday Study Hall to catch up on your work, study for that big exam, or prep for the week ahead while enjoying our food and your favorite coffee, tea, and smoothies. Also be sure to stay on the lookout for our Study Hall Weekly Specials! Sunday Study Hall will be effective between 12-4 p.m. every Sunday.

Update on DML Services
The Digital Media Lab is excited to reopen on Monday, August 30, 2021. Our services will look a little different because of the pandemic, so here is a brief rundown of what to expect.
- We are only open on weekdays from 12 to 4 PM
- The Whisper Room is unavailable until further notice
- The A/V Room has a limited capacity of two (2) people
- Individuals may use this room to record audio in lieu of the booth
- Three Mac computers and a flatbed scanner will be available
We have limited the maximum capacity in the DML to seven (7) people, including the desk attendant, to encourage social distancing. Please space yourselves if you are waiting to check out equipment and do not crowd into the room. We encourage everyone to visit
our website for details about available equipment before visiting. Remember that you must present your UMBC card in order to borrow anything.
Our room reservation system is again active and you can reserve the A/V Room for up to two hours per day (
link).

Counseling Center's Trans Support Group Fall '21 Details

The Counseling Center is running the Trans Support Group Fridays from 2-2:50pm starting September 24th and will run through the end of the fall semester.
This group is a support group for transgender, non-binary, and gender questioning students.

Library Reopening News
Library services, August 30 and beyond
The Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery is pleased to fully reopen to our campus and community users. Effective August 16 we reopened all seven floors of the building with no appointment required to use computers or study spaces. Per UMBC guidelines, masks are required at all times.
Beginning August 30, 2021 we will reopen for our fall semester hours:
- Monday-Thursday: 9:00am to 8:00pm
- Friday: 9:00am to 5:00pm
- Saturday: 12:00pm to 5:00pm
- Sunday: 12:00pm to 8:00pm
After the closing times posted above, UMBC users with valid, current ID may move to the Retriever Learning Center (RLC), which is open 24 hours.
In addition to masks for user and staff safety, we have reduced capacity of some of our meeting and study rooms and event spaces, and removed some furniture to allow for safe social distancing. For everyone's safety, we encourage you to consume food and drink outside of the Library during this time. Appointments are still required to use the Special Collections Reading Room, and other service points may have reduced hours.

library webpage for up to date hours and other information about our collections, services, and spaces. And keep an eye on this myUMBC group for updates on specific services and spaces. We look forward to welcoming our Retrievers back to the AOK Library & Gallery!
