It employs more than 17,000 faculty members and 19,000 staff members, and owns almost 1,000 buildings. Its annual operating budget is more than $7 billion. There are more than 170,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at its various institutions.

How would you like to represent all of those students as a member of the Board of Regents, the system's governing body?

Please take a look at this description of the Student Regent position and consider applying. Please also pass the information along to friends who may be interested. The Student Regent will serve from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2028, including as the voting Student Regent in 2027-2028. All applicants should be planning to graduate in spring 2028 or later.

The application deadline is Monday, November 3 at 5 p.m. Here is the application.

The ideal candidate for this Graduate Assistant position has experience supporting student events and/or is familiar with the commuter student programming experience at UMBC. They are creative, able to generate programming ideas, and proficient with design and communication tools such as Canva, and social media platforms. They possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build meaningful relationships across diverse student populations.

Join the writing accountability group to commit to your writing goals. We had our Kickoff meeting on Friday (10/03) and we have already formed some groups!

What are Writing Accountability Group, or WAGs at UMBC?

  • What: Writing Accountability Groups (WAGs) are voluntary and facilitated by fellow UMBC graduate students

  • Who: WAGs are comprised of a group of graduate students (usually 4-8 participants per group) interested in developing writing habits and accountability 

  • Why: Develop habits of writing every day for a short, manageable period of time by setting goals and being accountable to WAG peers 

  • When: WAG groups meet once a week for 60-90 minutes for 10-12 weeks. The group finds a weekly time mutually convenient to all group members.

  • Where: The group decides on a mutually convenient location to meet, whether in person or online via WebEx or other video conferencing platform
