This multi-module, self-paced course ensures that you are as well-prepared to manage your budgets, bank accounts, assets and debt as you are to master your academic and career interests. Once you have enrolled in the course, you are welcome to complete as many modules as you would like, whenever you choose to do so. However, here’s where FinancialSmarts start to pay off... By September 15, 2019 :
● If you complete the pre-assessment and one module, your name will be entered in our $100 campus card deposit drawing.
● If you complete the pre-assessment and two or more modules, your name will be entered in our $300 campus card deposit drawing.
● If you complete the pre-assessment and all modules, your name will be entered in our $500 campus card deposit drawing.
Campus card deposits can be used anywhere that you can use your campus card. For example:
-The Bookstore
-Campus food vendors like Outtakes, True Grits, and Salsaritas
-Paying tuition and fees on myUMBC or at SBS
-Campus vending machines
-Print stations

Going home over the summer? Working a low-paying or unpaid internship and worried how you’ll pay for groceries? Just interested in a free bag of nonperishable food?
Retriever Essentials has an abundance of food available, and we want you to come shopping in our pantry!
Stop by during exam week and hand pack your own bag for the summer. Come once, twice, or as many times as you need. We want to make sure you’re well taken care of during the break.
Are you going to be on campus during the summer for classes? Fear not! Our normal Food Zones will be open and stocked full of bags to be picked up at your convenience.

Find a Quiet Place to Study
At AOK Library!
The third and fourth floors of the AOK Library are Quiet areas. These are good places to study if you don’t mind the occasional whisper or vibrating phone. The fifth and sixth floors of the AOK Library are designated Absolute Quiet areas at all times.
If you need an environment free from talking, cell phones, or any other noise sources, these are the floors for you! Library staff walk through the area periodically to enforce quiet rules, but you can also report violations to the Security Desk at 410-455-2331 or Circulation Department staff at 410-455-2354.

Three reports have been released regarding recommendations on the prevention of and response to sexual violence/misconduct at UMBC. These reports were solicited by Retriever Courage in their work towards culture change in our community regarding these topics.
The three reports can be found on the Retriever Courage website here.
Retriever Courage is a collaborative initiative which includes participation from Shared Governance. GSA is, and will be, looking for input from graduate students regarding the recommendations in these reports.

Seeking Grad Senators: CAHSS and CNMS

We currently have
no applications for senators for next year from
CNMS (Phys, Chem, Bio, Math/Stats, etc ...).
Overall, we have 15 applications. Of these, 12 are from
COIET and 3 are from
CAHSS.
We were late to the game this year, so we expected difficulty getting
all colleges represented, but--as it stands--we will have no
representation from CNMS next year.
While we aimed for the deadline
for application submission to be May 1, it's clear that we should extend
the window. If you're in CAHSS or CNMS, please encourage your peers to
apply to be a graduate senator.

The GSA is seeking applications for senators who will serve

following general responsibilities as they represent either their

A message from Patrick Dawson director of the Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery
We are delighted in the Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery to announce the appointment of two new associate directors for the library. Timothy Hackman comes to UMBC from UMD College Park where he had worked in the McKeldin library for over 20 years in roles of increasing responsibility. He is Associate Director and Head of Public Services for the AOK Library & Gallery.
Carolyn Sheffield is currently Associate Director and Head of Library Technology and Digital Initiatives. Carolyn comes to UMBC from the Smithsonian Libraries, a library system comprising 20 branch libraries serving the various Smithsonian Institution museums and research centers.
We are very pleased to have these two as part of UMBC’s Library and Gallery, both started on 4 March 2019.
