  <Title>NVivo Qualitative Research Software Now Available</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>DoIT is now providing <a href="http://www.qsrinternational.com/nvivo/what-is-nvivo" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">NVivo</a>, a qualitative research software package equivalent to SPSS, Stata, SAS, or R. This software is available to all faculty, staff, and graduate students. It allows the user to import, code, and arrange data for methodologically rigorous and scalable analyses. This acquisition aligns with efforts to support UMBC's strategic plan, including the objective to "vigorously promote a campus culture of multidisciplinary collaboration and multidisciplinary research, scholarship, and creative activity."</div><div><br></div><div>Professor Anne Brodsky of the Department of Psychology, who also serves as Interim Director, Maryland Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (MIPAR) and Special Assistant for Social Science Research with the CAHSS Dean's Office, has been conducting qualitative research since arriving at UMBC 20 years ago.     <div class="html-content">The Albin O. Kuhn Library &amp; Gallery at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) seeks an individual to provide vision, leadership and strategic direction for a wide range of digital systems and services including new technology and library legacy technologies.  The position is responsible for ensuring quality and reliable delivery of library technology systems and services and should encourage exploration in support of teaching, research, learning and collaboration for current and a new generation of library users.  The position works closely with the UMBC Division of Information Technology, library and university personnel.  The incumbent, as Head of Library Information and Technology Support will also be an Associate Director of the Kuhn Library &amp; Gallery, and therefore will be part of the Library Executive Committee and have a voice in developing library policy for the 21st Century.  The position reports to the Library Director.<br><br><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong><br><ul><li>Leads the library’s investigation and implementation of emerging technology to better serve the campus.</li><li>Develops a technology plan that builds on the University’s and Library’s strategic plans to address new opportunities and pursue possibilities of adapting and applying technology solutions.</li><li>Participates in library planning; serves on library-wide and university committees and task forces including the Library Executive Council.</li><li>Works in partnership with the campus Division of Information Technology for discovery, planning and implementation of new technology. <br></li><li>Keeps current with trends and issues in the IT industry, including current technologies and costs. <br></li><li>Provides leadership in coordinating and defining technology requirements for library-wide projects and initiatives. <br></li><li>Oversees Library Information Technology Services composed of library faculty and staff and student employees and works with other areas of the library and university that are affiliated with technology. <br></li><li>In partnership with the Division of Information Technology insures that library systems and computing are robust and operational.</li></ul><br><strong>REQUIREMENTS: </strong><br><ul><li>ALA accredited MLS or equivalent advanced degree.</li><li>Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in IT-related project management in one or more of the following in an academic library setting:</li><ul><li>Database development</li><li>Network engineering</li><li>Hardware and software upgrades to mission critical applications</li><li>Application development</li></ul><li>Experience with library technologies and technology planning and demonstrated knowledge of current technology trends.</li><li>Strong analytical and decision making skills.</li><li>Demonstrated project management experience.</li><li>Evidence of leadership and management ability.</li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably and personably both orally and in writing.</li></ul><p><strong>Preferred:</strong><br></p><ul><li>Knowledge and understanding of significant trends and issues in the application of information technology to libraries and higher education, including research support and information management services and solutions.</li><li>Demonstrated experience in implementing new technologies or services, e.g. virtual servers, immersive technologies, and maker spaces.</li><li>Experience working with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.</li><li>Experience developing IT policies for workflows and software support.</li><li>Demonstrated record of participation in relevant professional associations and ongoing professional development.</li><li>Experience working with a larger campus information and computing group.</li><li>Experience working in a consortia of libraries.</li></ul><br><strong>To Apply:</strong>  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.  For best consideration, please respond by March 31, 2018.     <div class="html-content"><strong>Curator and Head of Special Collections &amp; Gallery </strong><br><br>The Albin O. Kuhn Library &amp; Gallery seeks an individual to serve as the Head and Curator of the Special Collections and Gallery. The individual will serve as part of a creative and user-focused team in directing, managing, preserving, and exhibiting UMBC’s photography, book, and archival collections. The ideal candidate will be a bold and strategic thinker, possess a broad knowledge of the history of photography, and have a sound knowledge of current trends in the special collections field, including in-depth command of digital issues as they relate to special collections. <br><br>The candidate will <br><ul><li>provide ongoing day-to-day and long-term direction, supervision, and guidance to department staff in their operations, policies, and procedures; </li><li>foster cross-departmental collaboration and relations with campus and community stakeholders to extend the reach and impact of UMBC’s collections; </li><li>articulate a vision for services in the Special Collections and Gallery that bolsters the Library’s Strategic Plan and incorporates dynamic activities in the areas of discovery, teaching, preservation, digital preservation and presentation, and outreach to new and existing audiences;</li><li>work independently and collaboratively with staff to develop and implement in-house and traveling exhibitions, publications, lectures, gallery talks, exhibition labels, web-based media, and other forms of communication.</li></ul><br>As the primary contact for all collection donors, the Head and Curator will be thoughtful and strategic in building relationships with collection donors and accepting materials into the collections. The individual will serve as a key external liaison and spokesperson for collection, exhibition, publication, and program matters, and assumes an active role in raising funds for department purposes. <br><br><strong>REQUIREMENTS:</strong><br><ul><li>ALA accredited MLS for which may be substituted an M.A., M.F.A., or Ph.D. in a discipline relevant to collections as well as a specialty in history, aesthetics, and collecting of photography.</li><li>6 years professional experience in a library or museum special collections department or archival repository.</li><li>3 years of relevant, progressively responsible supervisory and management or other relevant supervisory experience; experience with working collegially across departmental boundaries preferred. </li><li>Experience teaching or writing in an educational or professional context required; teaching or writing on the history, aesthetics, and collecting of photography in an educational or professional context preferred. Familiarity with the publishing process for developing exhibition catalogs preferred.</li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of existing and developing standards for collection, description, preservation and access for photography, book, and archival collections in an academic library environment.</li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of best practices and methods for donor relations, fund-raising, and grant-writing. Experience managing all aspects of collection development, acquisitions, and donations.</li><li>Ability to think critically and analytically; to study problems and develop well-reasoned and supported analysis and solutions; excellent written and verbal communications skills are required.</li><li>Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, showing clear communication, leadership and team building. Must be able to adapt quickly to changing priorities and have the ability to collaborate with a diverse community of faculty, staff, students and administrators.</li></ul><br><strong>SALARY AND BENEFITS:  </strong><br>Position is a full time (40 hours/week), 12-month library faculty appointment at anticipated rank of Librarian II. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications. Minimum salary $75,000 - $85,000 Comprehensive benefits.     <br>This incumbent will develop, implement and maintain departmental training and library-wide cross training materials and activities. Specific duties include:  assisting with the supervision of student employees; developing and implementing library-wide cross training materials for staff and student employees; providing assistance to patrons at the reference desk; assisting in the planning and implementation of a variety outreach activities to promote use of the library and its services; providing administrative support to the Reference department, including assistance with departmental analytics and assessment; and performing other duties as assigned.
    <br><br><strong>Required Minimum Qualifications: 	</strong>
    
    <br>Bachelor's degree and one year of experience directly related to the primary functions of the position. 
    <br><br><strong>Preferred Qualifications:  	</strong>
    
        <br><ul><li>Knowledge of basic principles of quality customer service and teamwork <br></li><li>Demonstrated ability and interest in the areas of library public services and outreach <br></li><li> Interest and/or experience in developing staff training materials <br></li><li>Demonstrated high-quality written and verbal communication <br></li><li>Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team <br></li><li>Ability to initiate and lead projects to completion <br></li><li>Interest and/or experience working with diverse populations <br></li><li>Ability to learn and operate a variety of common computing and productivity applications and specialized library hardware, systems, and software applications

          <div class="html-content">If you’ve got too much to carry, consider stashing some of your books in a locker!  The AOK Library has lockers that can be checked out on a daily or semester-ly basis (for free!).<br><br>​<strong>Daily lockers</strong> are available to UMBC students, faculty, and staff for a 24 hour period. Stop at the Check Out desk to pick up a key.  <br><br><strong>Semester lockers</strong> can be reserved for an entire semester at a time (Spring or Fall). Interested UMBC students, faculty and staff, please fill out the <a href="https://library.umbc.edu/studyrooms/lockers/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Locker Application Form</a>.<br>            <br><strong>Please note:</strong><br><ul><li>Materials kept in lockers and locker keys are the responsibility of the user.     <div class="html-content"><strong>Job no:</strong> 492609<br><strong>Work type:</strong> Staff Full-time<br><strong>Location:</strong> UMBC Campus<br><strong>Categories:</strong> Library<br><br><br><strong>Responsibilities:  </strong>   <br>Reporting to the Collection Management/Interlibrary Loan Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for lending to, or borrowing from, other libraries, and will query national and local online databases, as well as internet and reference sources, to search and verify bibliographic references.  Specific duties include: search and retrieve journals and books;  scan and deliver articles for ILL and document delivery; prepare and send print materials; assist in supervising and training student assistants.  <br>Note: This position requires physical labor-lifting and pushing loaded book trucks.<br><br><strong>Required Minimum Qualifications:</strong>     <br>Requires a High School Diploma or GED; one year of experience directly related to the primary duties of the position.  Must have good organization and communication skills and be detail oriented, self motivated and flexible.  The ability to work independently is essential.<br><br><strong>Preferred Qualifications:  </strong>    <br>1. Proficient with word processing applications<br>2. Experience using ILLiad management system and/or RAPID<br>3.
