Kuhn Library &amp; Gallery at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) seeks an individual to provide vision, leadership and strategic direction for a wide range of digital systems and services including new technology and library legacy technologies.  The position is responsible for ensuring quality and reliable delivery of library technology systems and services and should encourage exploration in support of teaching, research, learning and collaboration for current and a new generation of library users.  The position works closely with the UMBC Division of Information Technology, library and university personnel.  The incumbent, as an Associate Director of the Kuhn Library &amp; Gallery, will be part of the Library Executive Committee and have a voice in developing library policy for the 21st Century.  The position reports to the Library Director.<br><br><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong><br>Develops a technology plan that builds on the University’s and Library’s strategic plans to address new opportunities and pursue possibilities of adapting and applying technology solutions. Participates in library planning; serves on library-wide and university committees and task forces including the Library Executive Council. Works in partnership with the campus Division of Information Technology for discovery, planning and implementation of new technology. Leads the library’s investigation and implementation of emerging technology to better serve the campus. Keeps current with trends and issues in the IT industry, including current technologies and costs. Provides leadership in coordinating and defining technology requirements for library-wide projects and initiatives. Oversees Library Information Technology Services composed of library faculty and staff and student employees and works with other areas of the library and university that are affiliated with technology. In partnership with the Division of Information Technology insures that library systems and computing are robust and operational.<br><br><strong>REQUIREMENTS: </strong><br><ul><li>ALA accredited MLS or equivalent advanced degree.</li><li>Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in IT-related project management in one or more of the following in an academic library setting:</li><ul><li>Database development</li><li>Network engineering</li><li>Hardware and software upgrades to mission critical applications</li><li>Application development</li></ul><li>Experience with library technologies and technology planning and demonstrated knowledge of current technology trends.</li><li>Strong analytical and decision making skills.</li><li>Demonstrated project management experience.</li><li>Evidence of leadership and management ability.</li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably and personably both orally and in writing.</li></ul><strong>SALARY AND BENEFITS:</strong>  Position is a 12-month library faculty appointment at anticipated rank of Librarian II.  Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.  Minimum salary: $85,000 -$95,000 comprehensive benefits.  The expected candidate will be expected to meet library and university requirements for reappointment, promotion, and permanent status.<br><br><br><strong>To Apply:</strong>  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.  For best consideration, please respond by January 31, 2018. The successful candidate is expected to provide a wide range of reference, instructional, and outreach services to students, faculty, and staff. This position will work closely with the Instruction Coordinator to design and deliver library curriculum and instruction activities for first-year courses, including English 100 and Introduction to an Honors University seminars. As part of a department of six faculty librarians and one support staff, this position provides general reference service to the campus community (including shared evening and weekend hours) and participates in the planning and implementation of departmental operations. As an instruction librarian, this position designs and delivers library curriculum and instruction activities and contributes to the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the Library’s information literacy and instructional program.<br><br><strong>REQUIREMENTS:</strong><br><ul><li>    Master of Library &amp; Information Science degree (or equivalent ALA accredited degree)</li><li>    Demonstrated ability and interest in providing dynamic library instruction and contributing to a team-based information literacy program</li><li>    Demonstrated ability and interest in the areas of library public services and outreach</li><li>    Demonstrated high-quality written and verbal communication</li><li>    Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team</li><li>    Ability to initiate and lead projects to completion</li><li>    Interest and/or experience working with diverse populations, particularly students</li><li>    Undergraduate or advanced degree in a humanities discipline preferred</li><li>    Reference experience in an academic library setting preferred</li><li>    Direct teaching or library instruction experience preferred</li></ul><br><strong>SALARY AND BENEFITS:  </strong><br>Position is a ¾ time (30 hours/week), 12-month library faculty appointment at anticipated rank of Librarian I.     <div class="html-content"><strong>Job no:</strong> 492566<br><strong>Work type:</strong> Temporary/Contingent I<br><strong>Location:</strong> UMBC Campus<br><strong>Categories:</strong> Library<br><br><strong>Responsibilities:</strong>     <br>The incumbent will be responsible for general maintenance of the print serials collection, assisting with planning and implementation of shifts.  Using various library automated systems, the incumbent will perform searches to help identify items for deselection. The incumbent is expected to assist users, shelve, maintain all equipment as well as perform other duties as assigned.  This position reports to the Chief Serials Technician.<br><br><strong>Required Minimum Qualifications: </strong>    <br>Requires a High School Diploma or GED; Library or clerical experience desirable.<br><br><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong>      <br>Must have good organization and communication skills; detail oriented, self-motivated, flexible; demonstrate the ability to work independently; proficient with word processing applications. Familiarity with Excel spreadsheets would be preferable.  This position requires physical labor—lifting and pushing loaded book trucks.<br><br><strong>Background Screening Statement: </strong>    <br>A background check may be required.  <br><br><strong>Screening of Applications Begins:</strong><br>For best consideration, submit application by November 10, 2017 (resumes will be accepted until position is filled).<br><br><strong>Salary:</strong> $16.10 per hour, 30-40 hours per week<br><br><strong>Hours:</strong> M-F 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. subject to change depending on the needs of the Library.<br><br><strong>Additional Information:</strong> This is a temporary position.  Initial contract is for (6-Months) with the possibility of renewal. <br><br><strong>FLSA Status:</strong> Nonexempt <br><br><strong>Equal Opportunity Statement: </strong><br>UMBC is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
