    <Title>Find a Quiet Place to Study</Title>

          <div class="html-content"><p><span>The third and fourth floors of the AOK Library are Quiet areas.  These are good places to study if you don’t mind the occasional whisper or vibrating phone. </span></p><br><p><span>The fifth and sixth floors of the AOK Library are designated Absolute Quiet areas at all times.  If you need an environment free from talking, cell phones, or any other noise sources, these are the floors for you!  Library staff walk through the area periodically to enforce quiet rules, but you can also report violations to the Security Desk at 410-455-2331 or Circulation Department staff at 410-455-2354.</span></p></div>

    <Title>Fines happen. What&#8217;s the next step?</Title>

          <div class="html-content">We’ve all been there - sometimes the date slips your mind, and next thing you know you’ve got overdue library books!  So what happens next?<br><br>First off: don’t panic!  The fine for late books or DVDs is only $0.50 per day!  Other fines, like for laptops and equipment, are a little higher.  You can check the full list of fine amounts here: <a href="http://library.umbc.edu/circulation.php#fees" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">http://library.umbc.edu/circulation.php#fees</a>  <br><br>If you can’t get to the library immediately, try <a href="http://catalog.umd.edu/patron=go" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">renewing the item</a>.  You’ll still have the original fines, but you’ll stop accruing more.  (Note: not all items can be renewed.  For example, a recalled book cannot be renewed this way.  But it’s worth a try!)<br><br>When you’re ready to pay your fine, head to the Check Out Desk. Payment options are Campus Cash, credit card, or check. (Note: you can only pay your bill at the library for the first 30 days.  After that, the Student Business Office takes over.)<br><br>Do you have a question about your fine?  You can contact the Circulation Department for answers at 410-455-2354.           <div class="html-content">Food is allowed in AOK Library and the RLC.  Drinks are too, but in a covered container please!  We do ask that you avoid pricey equipment like photocopiers, printers, computers, microform readers, the Digital Media Lab, and Special Collections.<br><br>Spills sometimes happen - please clean up as best you can and alert library staff so they can check books and furniture for damage. Paper towels are available in the bathroom if you need them.<br><br>And when you’re finished, toss your trash in a bin!  There are several on each floor.  Happy studying!<br><br></div>

    <Title>Self-serve book scanner available in Special Collections!</Title>

          pleased to introduce the new Scannx Book ScanCenter to our researchers.
          Researchers will now be able to scan books and documents on their own and save
          it to their USB drive free of charge!</span></p>

          <p><span>The Scannx Book Scanner
          is a drop edge (or zero edge) scanner that allows you to scan documents flat or
          to scan bound materials like books without damaging the spine. Please show the
          items you wish to scan <a href="http://library.umbc.edu/speccoll/index.php" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Special Collections</a> staff who will evaluate the
          condition of the material.  If it’s not
          too fragile, we’ll show you how to do the scanning – it’s easy! </span></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><img src="//library.umbc.edu/speccoll/img/scannx.png" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><span>I have had the
          opportunity to use the Scanner and I found it user-friendly, quick and easy to
          use. Its large friendly buttons guide the user through scan process from
          choosing file formats, to scan quality, color depth, file naming and
          destinations. It has ample flatbed surface and every page comes back is crisp
          and clear. It provides high quality scans and converts scanned images into PDF,
          searchable PDF, Word, TIFF, or PNG file formats automatically. </span><span>We’ll show you how to scan things without damaging them and making sure they stay in their proper order,
          and instructions for its use can also be found next to the workstation.  Make sure to bring your own USB drive!</span></p>

          <div class="html-content">If you’ve got too much to carry, consider stashing some of your books in a locker!  The AOK Library has lockers that can be checked out on a daily or semester-ly basis (for free!).<br><br>​<strong>Daily lockers</strong> are available to UMBC students, faculty, and staff for a 24 hour period. Stop at the Check Out desk to pick up a key.  <br><br><strong>Semester lockers</strong> can be reserved for an entire semester at a time (Spring or Fall). Interested UMBC students, faculty and staff, please fill out the <a href="http://library.umbc.edu/studyrooms/lockers/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Locker Application Form</a>.<br>            <br><strong>Please note:</strong><br><ul><li>Materials kept in lockers and locker keys are the responsibility of the user. In addition to working on a library service desk providing research support, this position supports the Library’s instruction, orientation, and outreach efforts, particularly to the campus First Year Experience programs. This includes supporting and facilitating general orientations and instruction to first year students, assisting with library workshops, and initiating, planning, and conducting a variety of programs and activities to promote use of the library and its services.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Required Minimum Qualifications:</strong></div><div><p>Requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of experience directly related to the primary duties of the position.</p><p>Note: additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.</p><p><span><strong>Preferred Experience:</strong><br></span><span>-Strong interest in outreach and support of university students<br></span><span>-Interest and/or experience working with diverse population
