Come chat with UMBC community members about important issues that affect our lives on the dates: Tuesday, October 17, 2023, 3 - 4:30 PM and Tuesday, December 5, 2023, 2:30 - 4 PM . Real Talk creates opportunities for group reflection and discussion about personal experiences and what they mean for the lives we are building together. UMBC student, faculty, staff, and alumni participants respond to Real Talk prompts by sharing and discussing their reflections.

Dear UMBC Community, 

The Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery is undergoing construction to fix leaks and install a new roof. On Saturday, October 7, 2023, construction will take place inside the library's atrium to work on the ceiling and the roof above the atrium and the Retriever Learning Center (RLC). To ensure everyone's safety and allow for construction, the building will be closed for use on Saturday, October 7. The card swipe to the atrium and RLC will be deactivated at 5 a.m. on October 7, and will be reactivated at 6:30 p.m. The rest of the library and gallery building will remain closed until regular hours (noon to midnight) resume on Sunday, October 8.

We understand this may cause some inconvenience, but the closure is necessary to complete the construction work. Signage on the RLC and library and gallery doors will serve as reminders for the upcoming work.

Interested in using open source projects to contribute to the software engineering community while also bolstering your resume? This workshop will review the basics of open source methodology and provide actionable steps for joining many kinds of open source projects. Google is one of the tech industry's biggest champions of decentralized open source software development, with examples such as Android, Chrome, and TensorFlow (among others). 

Interested in working at Google but don't have a CS degree (or don't plan on getting one)? Come hear about all of the cool opportunities Google has for engineering majors outside of software engineering + why having a foundation in CS can be valuable in any industry. We'll discuss both full-time and internship roles in fields such as IT, hardware engineering, and others.

This is a reminder that registration for Writing Accountability Groups (WAGs) closes TONIGHT! This is an opportunity for structured time to meet your writing goals. Each group has a facilitator who helps the group track goals and connects with resources. This is a wonderful chance to build a community! 

HEY GRADUATE STUDENTS!!! 

Do you struggle with setting aside time to write? Do you need to make progress on a paper, thesis, literature review, or anything similar this semester? Do you like prizes and friendship? 

If you answered 'YES' to ANY of these, then a Writing Accountability Group (WAG) is for you! Small groups are made based on everyone's goals and preferences and will meet weekly to write! (Virtual or in-person - it's up to you!) Groups will kick off in 2 weeks! At the end of the semester, prizes are handed out to the group that is the most consistent! (Consistency is key, people!)
