On behalf of the University Steering Committee, we are writing to ask you to save Thursday, April 7 on your calendar for a Community Mental Health Action day. The USC will be working with partners across campus to host events both in person and online over the course of the day to promote mental health and community well-being. For now, we are writing to ask three things:
Please help make this day happen! If you have an idea for a workshop, class, conversation, or event that you would like to take the lead on, please email Susan McDonough at mcdonoug@umbc.edu. Alternatively, if you’re already programming an event that we can help advertise, let us know.
Please consider building this day into your syllabi and plans for the work day, perhaps with an assignment or readings that reflect the theme through the lens of your field, or perhaps with a study day to allow folks to participate throughout the day.

he Molecular Targets Program (MTP) of the National Cancer Institute’s Center for Cancer Research (NCI’s CCR) has postdoctoral positions available in its Protein Chemistry and Molecular Biology Section (PCMBS). The PCMBS uses its expertise in protein chemistry, biophysics, enzymology, molecular biology and screening to adapt CCR basic science laboratory findings into high throughput, cell-free screens for the interrogation of pure compound and pre-fractionated natural product libraries. In addition, we use these same skills to discover and characterize novel bioactive proteins from natural product extracts that increase our knowledge of protein structure and function, address diseases and molecular targets of interest, and potentially lead to clinical development.
The position is for a researcher with published expertise in enzyme kinetics and in-vitro inhibitor/activator mechanism of action studies to develop and implement high-throughput assays for the discovery of biologically active synthetic and natural product-derived compounds. Applicants should highlight their experience in relevant methods of in-vitro enzymology in their introductory email. Previous experience in high throughput screening or natural products discovery is not required but will be prioritized in candidate evaluation.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell/molecular biology, pharmacognosy or a related discipline from an accredited research institution within the last three years. The fellowship duration is for a maximum of 5 years based on performance and yearly evaluations. The fellowship is not restricted to U.S. citizens. The fellowship stipend starts at a flat rare per annum and is determined based on qualifications and years of relevant experience. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV with bibliography, and three letters of reference to MTP_PostDoc@nih.gov.

Facilities Management and the Office of Accessibility and Disability Services are hosting a review of recent, current and potential construction projects that enhance accessibility, improve the physical environment of UMBC, and benefit the entire community while supporting accessibility for people with disabilities.
Learn about the progress being made (have you used the new elevators in Fine Arts, Sondheim and Schwartz Hall?), projects on the horizon, and share ideas to inform the proposal process for UMBC's continued participation with the AccessMD Program. Other updates that enhance accessibility beyond the scope of the program will be shared because renovations and new construction include accessibility as part of the design process.
