All new grad students: please register for orientation.
Monday, August 15, 2011 · 9 AM - 5 PM
On Campus : Engineering Lecture Hall 5
Greetings and welcome to UMBC! All new graduate students are strongly encouraged to attend one of the New Graduate Student Orientation sessions on either Monday, August 15 or Wednesday, August 24. This page describes the program for Monday, August 15. The Monday program is during the day and includes agenda items such as "Five things you need to know now" and information about health services, getting connected, and academic resources. The Monday, August 15 program includes breakfast, lunch, connections to current graduate students from the departments and the graduate student organizations, and meetings with administrative representatives from each department. The afternoon portion of the program includes a dessert fair with representatives from campus-wide organizations who will be available to answer questions about financial aid, living on or around campus, parking, and more.
There is time in the Monday schedule for you to handle mandatory items such as the Academic Integrity Tutorial and getting your Campus Card (university ID). If you don't have a car, and need essential items, the International Education Services office is sponsoring shuttle service to the local Wal-Mart between 3 and 5 PM. You are also invited to enjoy a social on the Flat Tuesday's patio of the Commons (student center) sponsored by the Graduate Student Association.
The Graduate School orientation program accompanies the orientations within the departments. We ask that you plan to attend both the New Graduate Student Orientation sponsored by the Graduate School, *and* the orientation program that is sponsored by your respective department. Orientation programs for the departments vary widely. Most are scheduled after the Graduate School's orientation. These orientations are compliments; please do not consider substituting the Graduate School's orientation for the department's orientation. Opportunities for success are increased when you attend both programs.
If you are not able to attend the day program for the Graduate School's New Graduate Student Orientation, please register for the "EVENING" program.
