Greetings,
On Friday, June 19, beginning at 12 p.m., UMBC is offering administrative leave for the remainder of the day to accommodate the work of employees participating in Juneteenth events and/or increasing their personal knowledge through study and reflection. Employees should communicate with their supervisor accordingly to coordinate coverage. Leave eligible employees who are not participating in Juneteenth events or activities are not eligible to use administrative leave during the day.
The following scenarios represent guidelines for recording administrative leave for leave eligible employees:
- If an employee is scheduled off the entire day (unrelated to Juneteenth), the day is to be recorded using the accrued leave originally approved. No administrative leave is granted.
- If an employee is scheduled off the entire day (related to Juneteenth activities), the start time of the work schedule until 12 p.m. is recorded as accrued leave usage and 12 p.m. until the end of the work schedule is recorded as administrative leave.
- If a nonexempt employee worked during the morning schedule and is participating in Juneteenth activities during the afternoon, the hours from 12 p.m. until the end of the employee's work schedule is recorded as administrative leave.
- If an exempt or faculty employee worked during the morning and is participating in Juneteenth activities, the day is recorded as duty day. No administrative leave.
Leave questions may be directed to my attention at mcnamara@umbc.edu.
Thank you.
