Come to URCAD on Wednesday, April 25. Heather will present her research on "The Impact of Exhibition Design on Free-Choice Learning in the Albin O. Kuhn Library Rotunda".
Museum exhibits provide an opportunity for people to engage with educational content in a way that is fun and accessible. This study explored whether visual, interactive, and participatory exhibit design techniques would result in greater visitor engagement within the AOK Library Rotunda, which is often used for small exhibitions.

Don't Miss URCAD: April 25th!
Over 250 Undergraduate Presenters in All Disciplines
Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD) features research, scholarship, and creative work carried out by UMBC undergraduates. Student work is shared through oral presentations, posters, artistic exhibits and performances, and film.
Over 250 presenters participate annually. Researchers work with faculty mentors on independent research, or research that is part of the mentor’s on-going projects. They are from all disciplines, and can be working on a thesis, capstone project, part of a scholars or honors program, or they can be unaffiliated with other programs.
Students who have received
Undergraduate Research Awards (URA) for the previous year will be presenting their findings. The
UMBC Review, UMBC’s annual peer-reviewed research journal, which features academic papers written by UMBC undergraduates, makes its debut at this event- stop by and get your copy! Come hear the alumni keynote speaker talk about their experiences after UMBC, and how being an undergraduate researcher benefited them.
UMBC is unique in providing this opportunity for undergraduate students to conduct and present their research in a professional and supportive setting. Students get valuable feedback from their peers, faculty, and staff, and practice their public speaking and presentations skills. This campus-wide celebration of achievement affirms UMBC’s commitment to the twin goals of research and a distinctive undergraduate experience.

Former "Friends" star Lisa Kudrow was a Biological Sciences researcher at Vassar College. Her work focused on the comparative likelihood of left-handed individuals developing cluster headaches. Her father was a well-known neurologist and Kudrow intended on becoming one herself before getting her break on "Friends".

Former Raven John Urschel has bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics from Penn State and is pursuing a Ph.D. in mathematics from MIT. He has published peer-reviewed articles in mathematics and is an advanced stats columnist for "The Player's Tribune".

Since 2008, Dr. John McWhorter has taught linguistics, American Studies, and in the Core Curriculum program at Columbia University.
McWhorter has published a number of books on linguistics and on race relations, of which the better known are Power of Babel: A Natural History of Language, Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue: The Untold History of English, Doing Our Own Thing: The Degradation of Language and Music and Why You Should, Like, Care, and Losing the Race: Self-Sabotage in Black America. He makes regular public radio and television appearances on related subjects.

David Duchovny, who later went on to fame in The X-Files and Californication was an award-winning researcher and poet at Princeton University? He graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1982 with an A.B. in English literature and won an honorable mention from the Academy of American Poets! The title of his senior thesis was The Schizophrenic Critique of Pure Reason in Beckett's Early Novels.

Five of the six cast members of the famed British comedy troupe "Monty Python's Flying Circus" developed their interest in performing while students at a university. Michael Palin and Terry Jones were both students at Oxford; John Cleese, Graham Chapman and Eric Idle at Cambridge.
All five performed onstage in university comedy sketch shows before moving on to television and film.
