This fall, the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University will be hosting our Graduate Engineering Open House aimed at bringing underrepresented groups to our Columbus, Ohio campus and showing them the opportunities in engineering research and scholarship. We would LOVE if you would pass along the attached email invitation to any of your undergraduates who might be interested.
The event will take place October 13-14, 2017. We have TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIPS we can award to students to help them cover their expenses for flights, mileage, and/or hotel stay. This is a GREAT opportunity for your students to come and check out a highly ranked, Research 1 institution and learn all about the graduate school process!!

Nationally competitive scholarships help support students to study within the U.S and abroad, by providing funding for graduate school and research opportunities. These scholarships are recognized as some of the most prestigious in the world, and their purpose is to develop outstanding students into leaders whose research and careers will have far-reaching impacts on the world.
UMBC provides direct support to students seeking to apply for nationally competitive scholarships. If you are interested in applying for one of these opportunities, you are required to upload a dossier which includes your current transcripts, resume, personal statement (if you have one already written), a short statement about your future academic and career plans, and a short statement about why you want to pursue this scholarship. Once this is received, you will be contacted to set up an in-person appointment to meet with Dr. April Householder. Before beginning this process, please review the eligibility guidelines for the scholarship(s) you are interested in. If you have general questions about any of these opportunities, please email Dr. Householder at aprilh@umbc.edu.
Please be aware that all scholarships listed below require university sponsorship, and have an on-campus application/interview process, and an internal deadline that is earlier than the final submission deadline.
Johns Hopkins University is pleased to host the Explore Hopkins Program (EHOP), Thursday, October 12 through Saturday, October 14, 2017, on its Homewood Campus, in Baltimore, MD.
EHOP is a joint effort between the university¹s Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and Whiting School of Engineering. Our goal is to host a small group of students from underrepresented backgrounds who are interested in pursuing doctoral studies at Johns Hopkins. Join us and attend graduate admissions workshops, network with world-class faculty, gain insight from graduate students, and discover all that Johns Hopkins and the larger Baltimore community has to offer. Lodging and meal costs will be covered for all EHOP participants. Reasonable travel costs will be reimbursed.
Eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Strong academic background with a minimum undergraduate
GPA of 3.5 - Applications are particularly encouraged from Black/African Americans, Latino/Chicano Americans, Native Americans, and Pacific Islanders.
- Preference will be given to juniors and seniors from the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area, and Mid-Atlantic states.
Interested students must complete the application form by Friday, September 8. Applicants will be notified of decisions by September 18.

The Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship
The Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship is a fully funded, 4-week, 6-credit summer study abroad program designed to enhance leadership and intercultural skills. Open to all majors who are rising Sophomores or Juniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA, who are Pell Grant eligible. How to Get Started in Research Workshop: Monday, May 23
Sharon wants to get started in research but she's not sure how.
"I wandered around campus for a long time," she noted. "I didn't see any workshops so then I just went and got a piece of pizza."

Well, guess what, Sharon? The Office of Undergraduate Education is holding a "How to Get Started in Research Workshop" on Tuesday, May 23 from 12-1 in Sherman 113.
Dr. April Householder (expert) will tell you all about URCAD, the Undergraduate Research Award (URA), summer research opportunities and much, much more.
