Dear Members of the UMBC Community,
It is with deep regret that I pass along the sad news that Michael Henson, long-time security officer on the UMBC campus, passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, April 15, 2017.
Mr. Henson served his country with distinction for four years in the U.S. Air Force and entered state service with the Maryland Department of Transportation, before arriving at UMBC in 2010. The police department and the entire UMBC community were incredibly fortunate to have experienced his wonderful personality, positive attitude, and exceptional commitment to helping others. Mr. Henson’s strong work ethic and dedication to supporting all students, faculty, and staff reflect all the police department strives to be.
Since word of his passing, many members of the campus community have written the police department to express their condolences. This outpouring of support is a strong reminder of the lives he has touched in the most positive ways during his time at UMBC. He was an invaluable part of the community and his presence has made UMBC a better place for all of us.
Viewing services for Mr. Henson will take place on Friday, April 28, 2017, 5-7 p.m. at March Funeral Home, 4300 Wabash Ave., Baltimore, MD 21215. Funeral services will take place Saturday, April 29, 2017, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
