Beginning in the fall of 2018, UMBC Parking Services will be transitioning to virtual permits for all parking across campus. The new system, which uses License Plate Recognition, will identify your vehicle by its license plate, removing the need for physical hangtags and allowing all permit holders to easily add and maintain multiple vehicles on their accounts.
Under the new system, students, faculty, and staff will be able to request parking permits electronically, streamlining the permit purchase and retrieval process and eliminating replacement fees for lost or stolen permits. Permit holders will be allowed up to three vehicles per account; however, only one vehicle at a time will be authorized to park on campus. The new system will also enhance safety and security through its integration with state and local police databases.
The decision to implement virtual permits follows a series of conversations with committees across campus in which members of the campus community shared their thoughts and feedback. Thank you to everyone who was involved in this important process.
To learn more about the new parking system and its benefits, please join us for a Parking Services Information Session on Wednesday, April 18 at noon in the Engineering Building Lecture Hall 5, Room 027. If you have any additional questions, please contact Parking Services, 410-455-2551.
