Dear Members of the UMBC Community,
We are deeply saddened by the devastation that recent flash flooding has caused in our community—in Catonsville, Arbutus, Ellicott City, and other areas across Baltimore County, Howard County, and Baltimore City. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of National Guard Sgt. Eddison Hermond, who lost his life in the flooding, and all who have suffered losses.
Many members of our university community live, work, and frequent businesses in the affected areas. UMBC is committed to supporting the local community through recovery efforts, sharing knowledge and resources to help with cleanup and, we hope, to reduce future flood risk.
Residents who are seeking support or would like to offer support to others can visitHoward County and Baltimore County government websites. Also, the Howard County Community Relief Fund, Ellicott City Partnership, and American Red Cross Greater Chesapeake Region are currently accepting donations.
