Dear Members of the UMBC Community,
It is with a very heavy heart that we bring untimely news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Larry Matthews. He passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019.
Larry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was the kindest, most loving, and genuine person anyone could have the pleasure of knowing. Many of you may have met Larry at the Division of Student Affairs Spring Opening Meeting in January when he was presented the "Life Saver" award for his swift actions which avoided an imminent collision with an out-of-control tractor trailer travelling down I-95 in October 2018.
Larry's family has asked we share this unfortunate news and information regarding remembrance services with our UMBC family. Please hug your loved ones this evening and be reminded that each day is a gift.
A viewing service for Mr. Matthews will take place on Friday, May 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wylie Funeral Home, 701 N. Mount St., Baltimore, MD, 21217. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 25 at the same location, with the wake beginning at 12:30 p.m., followed by service at 1 p.m.
